I never viewed being "passionate" about programming as the author has. I want passionate employees working for me. To me that means you like the work, you are interested in the field, and it means you continue to build your body o

Fair point, my argument is that rather than saying salary is 100k, they should be saying total compensation is valued at 110k with 100k being salary, parking being valued at 7k and donations to the upper peninsula bird watching society cove

Sorry, php and golang developers and sysadmin types. But I hired two guys who were .net guys who were tired of it, they say that the grass is greener, sky bluer, and their wives and girlfriends are more beautiful. ymmv.

Salary is the wrong metric! For example, I don't want to see a job below 125K but a job is posted at 115K and they subsidize X where X is important to me personally....then that can change everything. It's obviously a much tougher

I have some wiggle room on my dev jobs so I'm offering $X-$X+20 for someone with $Y-$Y+5 yrs of experience. I'm perfectly open to an increase and I work with a recruiter whom I trust, so I usually ask him if I'm low or high

Definitely seems like an interesting idea, I like what you are trying to do here. One thing you might want to do is update your dns so that your app also answers on openloopz.com. Currently you receive a heroku message stating "There i

This can be an issue if you aren't able to pick up new skill sets quickly. As another poster said languages and frameworks are tools. While you can't be a master at a new language in a week you can certainly become functional in

I will slightly adjust that to - it depends on the company (do your research). Clearly if you are applying for a startup of early 20 somethings a suit makes zero sense (but then there is less doubt, no?)

Actually, I don't care...but for me what it speaks to is self-awareness. Many developers get caught up in their own little world. If they can't be bothered to think about how others perceive them it also points to all kinds of ot

Agreed, to clarify my comment. One will not find that company working at the sucky company they are at. Might as well quietly network/research those companies in an effort to make the jump.

I am a hiring manager. I do want my people to "care" about programming, more specifically I want them to care about the quality of their work. Not all managers in all companies realize the costs incurred by doing garbage work and

Future expansion what about passing a height/width and making a larger progress bar, or a hex code for the color of the bar, or even a gradient? Lots more options and you can always cache the url request for a sane amount of time so i

I think the issue with this PAC (and others with similar slate of goals) is the naiveté that if we are able to reform election policy and cutoff unlimited funding from lobbyists and other 3rd parties that the interests behind that money jus

Question: What is on-boarding new employees like with that system? How long does it take you to get people up to speed and being productive? I would suppose the lack of rules makes them fast in the beginning and in the end they are contri

I'm in your boat, but you have to realize that heroku is not targeted for anyone who is comfortable doing top to bottom provisioning of their environment. I also think their value proposition is a "grow with us" type situatio

This is correct. I'm referring to the registrar-registry relationship and not customer-registrar relationship. In .com,.net,.org for example auto renew occurs at 12am the day of expiration. However, for some of the odd ones like .be if

I think that assessment is fair. Consider though that many users struggle with matching the data they have on the card with what goes on the form. Specifically the cvv code since some vendors use a 4 digit code instead of the more mainline
