Dealers are doing that - yes. But it's not hard to find dealers in my big city that aren't doing it. Just search around on the internet and you can also find car dealers that don't add these charges.

This is interesting because I haven't heard of this. Would it be something like your license is controlled by you? Somehow you have to keep it private though. Having someone control a position on the blockchain wouldn't seem to be

The nuclear non-proliferation treaty has somewhat limited nukes. But now Iran is on the verge, Israel, India, Pakistan , North Korea and other countries must be pursuing them. North Korea has shown the value of them because nobody can attac

First, I was surprised about the idea that there must be an exact description of dangers before someone can investigate the dangers and consider them. So I was raising the issue of nukes as obviously dangerous, ai less so, we can consider t

You can get a $7500 tax credit on a bolt and a few other cars. This is also true with the just updated EPA rules. This also means materials and manufacturing especially batteries were primarily from the US, Mexico or Canada. So it's ef

What does that have to do with neoliberalism? Also, you'll have to say which presidents you see as being responsible. Wikipedia says Trump was neoliberal, I've seen it applied to other presidents. Trump was impactful on the world

There's no evidence that working in the office leads to better productivity. There were some reports during covid time that productivity was slightly up, but I think it's unclear. You should reward hard work and get outcomes regar

NTFs seem silly. You own a digital asset on a block chain. But anyone could use a jpeg, it just has no real value to have so-called ownership.

This is no different than the property taxes ordinary home owners have to pay. People generally pay with money from their already taxed wages.

That's a silly argument. Every home owner in America pays a "wealth tax" in the form of a percentage of the value of their house. Somehow we homeowners generally manage to survive, most of us actually have growing property va

Hey, thanks so much. That solidifies the case for 128gb mac studio. Apple could be selling a bunch of these things with these high ram capabilities.

I see refurbished m1 2tb/128gb for $4700, looks like similar price for an m2 with same storage/ram with my corp discount (20cpu/48gpu). This is a tough decision.

The next question is m1 or m2, and the impact of the various number of gpu units between pro, max, ultra skews. I'm really tempted to buy a "refurbished m1 studio" with 128gb because I think the ram is the key. Have not seen

I still think this question is important. I want to know also, how much ram on m1 or m2 is needed for good use as these models grow (64, 96, 128?).

How much ram is likely needed on an apple arm for models like this? And for general use, 64, 96, 128? Trying to decide how large I should go for a new laptop.

The perf results I was referring to was the ability to run an llm locally (like llama.cpp) that uses a giant amount of ram in the gpu, like 40gig. Without this uniform memory model, you end up paging endlessly, so it's actually much fa

With the integrated ram and cpu and gpu on apple silicon, however it's done it yields perf results. I do think that probably has higher cost than separately produced ram. And even separate from that, because they have that unified memo

It sounds like we are in a similar position. I had no desire to get a 64gb laptop from apple until all the interesting things from running llama locally came out. I wasn't even aware of the specific benefit of that uniform memory model
