This is troubling, and becoming ever more widespread. In Seattle people jokingly say we have a fifth season now, after summer comes the smoke season, when the dry end of summer leads to forest fires that come with smoke hitting us, and then

There's another important part of this though, oil companies pay scientific researchers to publish views against the veracity of climate change, research and predictions. That's why they say it's science denialism because tho

Plenty of people realized that eugenics was unacceptable who were in the scientific world then, just like plenty of people understood that slavery was wrong. Which doesn't take away from the fact that plenty of terrible policies came o

I disagree with that attitude. I think most scientific information that comes to us through the media is reliable. If people stop trusting science (or they continue to stop trusting science), we are just left with superstition and religion.

I bought the prev generation for that kind of purpose, about 3 months ago. To get 2tb disk/128gb ram cost over $5k. Curious about new prices. The perf seemed good running 65b models but not 16bit. You need the ram and disk space, but t

I lived in Arizona, they have these checkpoints everywhere, many miles from the border. They just stop everyone and harass whomever they want. This is not "at the border", this is 30 miles up the freeway. They questioned my friend

In the US, avg income is something like 55k - so 5.5 figures?, but most people manage a car and phone. But we can't design society assuming everyone has one of course.

I have a Tesla from that timeframe and it has an am radio and it just works. Somehow they managed this in 2012. Others can do it too. Software is not always easy but we persist.

We sure could save a lot by cutting social security for old people, reduce medicare payments, cut down food stamps for people with kids that's a few trillion right there. Or we could just cancel recent tax cuts that were focused on we

Why would it cost more to do warehouses? Not discussed here. You could say we should do nothing except full scale land solar, stop houses for example. There's actually a movement to block solar at farms by the Petro industrial complex,

"It was easy..." - that doesn't sound that easy to me. I've honestly never had to do something like that to get linux working. Or maybe I'm too lazy and tried to work around things like that.

Haha - at the same time many libertarians / conservatives want there to be no infrastructure owned by the public! Another way we are at war with ourselves in the good old semi-public private USA.
