I think "hiding" the SSID is a particularly stupid advise. The access point will still send the beacon frames, just with an empty SSID, so the network will show up as "hidden network", or similar, drawing more attention.

Yeah, ADSL being so good at handling a crappy physical medium is both a blessing and a curse. If it weren't for these technologies we would have probably had to replace those rusty copper pairs decades ago for fiber optics. Instead the

I'm guessing, but I would say it has something to do with the fact they're using a VPN: you may want to route packets between your physical and virtual interface.

A lot of italian ISPs did that too in the early 2010s. Eventually someone figured out the algorithm to derive the WP2 passphrase from the SSID (and MAC address, I think) and wrote a handy tool. You were literally able to drive around a neig

Does this have anything to do with the company that was promising street lighting with glowing plants in a kickstarter many years ago[1]? I recognized the picture of the glowing tobacco plant. [1]: https://www.kickstarter.com

It certainly means that momentum is conserved as time passes. The variation of the total momentum of a system is equal to the impulse, which is zero if there are no external fields.

Conservation normally means things don't change over time just because in mechanics time is the go to external parameter to study the evolution of a system, but it's not the only one, nor the most convenient in some cases. In Hami

Time is not special regarding symmetries and conserved quantities. In general you can consider any family of continuous transformations parametrised by some real variable s: be it translations by a distance x, rotations by an angle φ, etc.

The fact that standard EM theory with zero magnetic charge works well only proves that normally there aren't lots of magnetic monopoles floating around: they could be very short-lived particles or strange phase of the matter, but still

Another fun thing you could do (I'm not saying it's a good idea) with nix-shell is this: install command-not-found and set this function in your shell command_not_found_handle() { eval "$(command-not-found $1 2>

The problem is not the CPU architecture, it's everything else: no standardised boot mechanism, no hardware enumeration at all, proprietary blobs everywhere, no mainline kernel support, no vendor support 6 months after launch, etc. And

Yeah, sure: managing both IPv4 and IPv6 on the same network is painful. Thankfully you can disable IPv4 locally and set up NAT64 on the router: most people won't even notice the change.

Basically the only "stdlib" that Fortran gives you are some mathematical functions, super basic string and file operations and that's it. There are no APIs for networking, sockets, IPC, threads, etc. that pretty much al moder

Unfortunately it's pretty much the opposite: Fortran doesn't have standard library, just a small set of "intrinsic" functions that a compiler must implement. Nonetheless, Fortran has built-in support for N-dimensional ar

Yes, but the real numbers that can be computed to arbitrary precision with an algorithm are countable: this means almost all the reals contain an infinite amount of information. The real numbers are useful to reason and construct proofs, bu
