Is this great news, or good news, or nothing too exciting? Dunno. It might be interesting to learn how many people read this in another browser, popped over to firefox to update it ... and then returned to their other browser. We may be

Web-based "apps" have this great feature: updates require no work on the part of the user. And they have this terrible bug: updates require no work on the part of the user. With real (i.e. native) software, users get to decide. Important

Even those who don't know whether the word "data" is singular or plural tend to be consistent ... not this crew. "All data is transferred with a 128 Bit SSL coding and are even secured by your log in on our Group Business Platform."

One thing: you don't get used to things that won't work on a tty, e.g. when connecting to another machine over ssh.

TM-1 was wonderful, so TM-2 should be fantastic. New users will love it, I'm sure. As for the original TM-1 users, they may just have moved on, after the long wait for their favourite features.

Many people find it difficult to see which of two large numbers is greater, unless they are reading on paper and take up a pencil and count the groups of three. This issue must come up a lot in simple-English. The solution is to introduce

I used to use powerpoint for my classes. A few years ago, something messed up, and I could only use the blackboard. Guess what? Best. Class. Ever. Now, my scheme is to teach the way people taught 100 years ago. I talk to my students.

A few times a year, I download the latest version of star-office / open-office / libre-office and try it on a MSWord document from work. My most recent attempt was 2 weeks ago. I have yet to see a correctly-formatted result. In the beginn

It might help to have a multi-dimensional system in which karma is measured by (k1, k2, k3, ..., kn). Let the reader specify thresholds for each, as they see fit. For example, k1 could relate to humor, k2 to historical insight, etc. If yo

Um, regarding "MWh = MWx365x24xCF", isn't an hour 3600 seconds, so isn't the factor 3600? You seem to be converting using days in year and hours in day, yielding a factor-of-ten error.

Yesterday I got an email from a journal asking me to submit a paper. They needed it within 2 weeks. And it would be published 2 weeks thereafter. After I spewed coffee through my nose, laughing, I clicked the "spam" button. Publication i

I like the idea, and there are several aspects of the georgify format that are pleasing. My main comment is that there is far too much vertical whitespace. The compactness of hn is pleasant to the eye, and it lets readers scan headlines q

You're right about the live results being entertaining. Possible google docs has something to contribute, after all. Not that I'd be able to use it in most of my work, because off-site storage has legal implications, where I live.

This is amazing . It is quite a thrill to be able to read such things in a browser, instead of having to slog to the library or do an inter-library loan. And the indexing is very well done, even with English translations of titles.

I modified slightly the suggestion for bash prompt, to read as follows (the 'git' stuff is pretty standard): function count_tasks { ~/bin/t | wc -l | sed -e's/ *//' 2> /dev/null | sed -e s/0//' } export PS1="\h:\W\$(pa
