But does the water reach 27°C during Australian summers, or just the air? Water will remain cooler than air for a long time, as anyone who's jumped into a swimming pool in summer knows. It was the sustained water temperature of 27°C

A wise person once told me that if you ever find yourself saying "if only everyone would just do X...", then you should stop right there. Never, ever, in the history of the world has everyone done X. No matter how good an idea X

Yeah, I switched to DuckDuckGo years ago (when it came out that Google was "customizing" search results per-customer, meaning you'd not just get different advertising but different *search results* based on what ads you'

You don't have to get that complicated to look for the reason. It's the purring. I am just one data point and you'd need to find others, but I find cats that purr loudly much more appealing than cats whose purring is so quiet

The two are not comparable behaviors, though. Sarah was doing the opposite of Linus's (mostly former) communication style. She was pushing for a "let's all get along" style, and got pushback for that from the Linux kerne

I am not a lawyer, but I have picked up a little bit of knowledge of US legal procedures over the years, so let me try to explain this a little for anyone who hasn't read US legal documents before. There is a lengthy set of rules for h

To expand on that last sentence for anyone who doesn't know, a well-shaped hunting boomerang is meant to fly in a straight line, faster and farther than throwing a similarly-heavy stick that you just picked up off the ground. Which let

Yes, that is the entire point of the game. All of you are from different periods in history, and you're all traveling back in time to the first day the U.S. Patent Office opens, in order to get the very first patent. But of course sinc

Vaguely related: I own a fun little board game called U.S. Patent No. 1 (made by Cheapass Games), which is obviously inspired by the story of Alexander Graham Bell beating Elisha Gray to the patent office by just a few hours. In that game,

I mentioned that as an advantage in one of my other comments. An advantage both ways, because it depends on preference. I have the same preference as hansvm: I would rather see the dangling dash at the end of the line, so I prefer putting s

I also put spaces around em dashes. It looks wrong—subtly wrong—to me to have the words glued together around the dash. It looks right — completely right — to me to have the dash standing on its own, as if it was a word in its own right.

I thought Jira's slowness was just me, because our server is in the US and I'm in Asia and they designed it so that any lag in communicating with the server gives you a terrible experience in their frontend. Turns out no, it'

To be fair, switching from Jira to just about anything else would be an improvement. :-) Source: about 2-3 years working on a team that used Jira extensively.

That is indeed one of the best sites for people new to F#, both experienced C# devs and those relatively new to programming. It's rarely updated any more, so you won't find discussion of the new F# 9 features there, but the existi
