Just a thought: maybe KDE is the reason why GTK is so popular. I've been a Linux user for roughly 14 years, and every time I try KDE, I can't seem to give it more than 5 minutes. The KDE UX is like kryptonite to me. I feel like a

It'd be more interesting if there was service which analyzed the client's logs and recommended specific action (per client), with the unique insight gained by your honeypot network. Something like an API which you hooked up with y

Facebook is a free website, and it has massive technical advantages over all its competitors. It's integrated everywhere, the feature set is incredible, and it basically dictates our model of online social networks. Airbnb ultimately d

Same here. Aside from taking care of transactions, which is easy to imitate, I don't see what sets Airbnb apart from other vacation rental websites. They are not fundamentally different. Yes, they have a large userbase, but that's

There's nothing wrong with committing often, but pushing too often should not be encouraged. If you commit a lot, you should probably rebase before pushing.

The presentation is a little silly, yes, but if there's any truth to it - if Google actually works this way - that could make all the difference. There are places that simply don't give a shit about "smart creative" type

There was a post about Zoho just yesterday, a company which always focused in sustainability and revenue and did very well. ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8456398 )

Some comments: - This looks a bit like Rando, but Rando was more interesting. Even the icon of your app is plain. - No Android support is a dealbreaker for a huge number of users, including me. - Your only customer review is rather negative

I've had limited exposure to WPF, but I found it absolutely delightful. When you work with web development for so long, working on a desktop app feels very refreshing. The toolkit lets you focus (choice is hard); data binding is awesom

Why is Node your only readily available option? There's nothing stopping you from writing the backend in C# (or anything else) and the client code in HTML and JavaScript.

One huge advantage Google has over Amazon is a much wider global presence. I understand Amazon has transformed shopping in the United States, but it still hasn't reached most of the world. Google has. In many developing markets, a Goog

Really interesting read. I wonder about the resolution: was snorm() reimplemented correctly, or was an RNG with the 'wrong' interval supplied?

For button labels, help texts, in-page instructions: use an i18n framework. For longer texts, docs, etc: throw Wordpress (or some other CMS) in front of the damn thing. You can route whatever needs CMS functionality, say /docs, to WP,

I love the idea! I think it has great potential. Some criticism: I think the website needs polish. It looks a little amateur, which might put off some users. And it took me a while to understand what it was about.

I find old data strangely fascinating. I actually enjoy working with legacy systems every now and then - the older the better. There's something therapeutic about carefully making sense out of old and/or poorly maintained data. I

Thanks for mentioning Mithril, I didn't know about it. It looks very interesting. I've been meaning to try React.js for a while now, just haven't found the time. About Mithril, HTML generation with JavaScript is an odd design

Sorry for not clarifying. What I find awkward about it is the Angular-specific baggage and the syntax, which just got more complex. Stuff like ng-model-options="{ updateOn: 'blur' }" is far from straightforward. I guess

I feel Angular is better than almost everything out there but still not quite right. It seems way too complex for what it does, and the syntax looks like somebody vomited all over your code. Does two-way databinding have to be so awkward? A
