It's a web app someone made, I think linking to interesting web apps is almost always on topic as long as they are more complicated than a single serving web site. --- looking forward to when pg lets us starting tagging things as meta

Would you rather run the iPhone OS or Android? I myself would much rather run Android, and I think I'm going to wait 6 months for one with a keyboard with a faster processor than the Droid.

I expect Hacker News has a similar consensus. Circumcision is not worse than slavery, but it is one of those relics of human barbarism that will be looked at with scorn and disdain in 50 years. The fact that HIV transmission is marginally r

That should be long enough where we have memristor based storage -- all the storage capacity of hard drives with the speeds of super-fast fast RAM.

I just can't keep up with Hacker News anymore. I used to read /newcomments a lot but that doesn't work so well for me these days. The opaque voting policies don't really bother me, but I probably understand them more than most people. I wis

I'm not sure that I meant hallucination in the clinical sense. I meant that if I was trapped inside my own mind for months on end, I would have nothing else to do besides create elaborate fantasy worlds in my mind and I suspect many others

I think within a few months you would descend into a self-hallucinatory dreamworld -- you'd be insane, but I don't think it would be the worst hell imaginable. Not even close.

I agree with you about the body of history here. The doctrine is in no ways new or radical; I still think it's a bad idea, and it's gotten a lot easier to incorporate since the days of the East India Company when you needed a Royal Charter

The recent SCOTUS decision was indeed correct if precedent is to be taken into account. However, I think 100 years of bad legal precedent and the status quo has blinded you (and the Supreme Court, for that matter) towards the real issue. Co

That's also true, but not a very good reason to submit more global warming articles here, unless the article has something actually new to say about global warming.

You're right, and this is not even a good article to function as a framework for a discussion of global warming, which is much, much more complicated than the article makes it out to be.

Our democracy is at most only 50% a sham. I think if we're looking for scapegoats for all of the problems of society, we should go a higher level and blame corporate personhood itself rather than individual sociopathic executives.

I don't think it is intentionally propaganda, though it may influence opinion because if you're forced to sell yourself into wage slavery it really does help to work on something fun for a company that has free catered meals. If money is so

Btw, these concepts are definitely somewhat distant and based on iMac sized tablets. I can guarantee that the first Chrome OS Tablet is going to look pretty much just like Chrome OS with an on screen keyboad.

Too pessimistic, society isn't really unraveling. On average, spending the extra money on education results in better education, even when taken to ridiculous levels.

I would be strongly in favor of eliminating the minimum wage, if we had an appropriately socialized system of food, water, clothing, and job training distribution. But that's never going to happen. I have a nearly unlimited amount of viewpo
