As gtani pointed out that there's a opensource project that probably does this already: http://sourceforge.net/projects/blindelephant/

blindelephant is interesting. Was not available when I started 2 years ago. Appliedstacks seems to be a wiki so it's entirely user generated.

let me try a pitch: "If you provide Ruby/Rails hosting like Heroku, Engine Yard, RightScale etc. do, the database could contain up to 4300 potential new customers"

Isn't there a possibility that keeps me from distracting the users? Don't you think the database might have a value on its own?

As you've mentioned hosting isn't a problem so that's not an issue. My experience after running (resurrecting) the local ruby user group ( http://ruby-muenchen.de/ all done/run by me) and http://IsItRails.com/ for two years are disillusi

I've never done that "fund raising" thingy. I once had an offer to embed a pay per lead banner but considered the low traffic it seemed not be a good idea. It's a very specific app and probably the database is more valueable than the visito

if you've DSL it depends on "interleaving". It's something lik "ECC" and takes usually ~20ms. This does only affect latency not performance. Here in Germany some providers even charge you on a monthly bassi to deactivate interlaving which t

same thing here. I'm probably caring too much telling Z-Players how to improve rather to improve myself to get a A+ player. As I love programming and this is my biggest "hobby" since school I can't really do mediocre work for a longer perio

I once made the mistake to work as contractor (Ruby) for a company that fits in the article's description. The customer was unable to deliver me input for serveral months but begged me to sit in their office all day. Just sit there and do s

15 years of my IT career I've never lost any hard disc out of the sudden (~100). A HDD usually does make sounds, throws smart errors or shows signs (starting file system corruption). SSD die just out of the sudden without any warning.

If you can match the UUID to a real name and make the user use your app/website frequently, you've pretty much everything to track her/him (add geo if you wish). He/She cannot escape/opt out.
