Chess is played over (snail) mail a lot, so it’s possible the player dies a natural death and it’s not “an emergency”. I guess an emergency is more like you leave the board in a hurry.

There is a dev adding Ruby bindings via FFI to ML libs. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a large community (yet). I don't do any ML and don't know much about it, but the Elixir / Phoenix people around José Valim now b

I see notifications for starting Gitlab CI pipelines in Google Chrome on MacOS. What kind of notifications do you want exactly? I would rather have less notifications, they distract me too much.

I wonder how this works. Maybe it’s similar to osquery with virtual tables on top of sqlite? But then, how would you market this as SaaS?

You didn't even take a look at https://get.docker.io It's still downloading and executing a script, just two steps instead of piping the output straight into bash. You can't even inspect the code you run when you

Just today I saw another “works on my machine” issue. The dev didn’t complain for 3 weeks that his latest code isn’t deployed. QA found out today (on a Friday) about it and the dev has his day off. The issues were not hard to fix, but it’s

I would think it’s just a rough indicator of complexity. Elasticsearch has a lot of features, probably many more than MeiliSearch. This can be good or bad, depending on what you’re looking for.

I would like to try to understand why this is the case. Is it correct to say: Clearcut means the next planted trees are all the same generation, so the trees are of similar height and their crowns are next to each other. Fire can easier ign

The argument that you can express something in an existing language doesn't mean you shouldn't try to create something more expressive.

I could use something similar to jq, but for XML. Or something like a lovechild of sed, awk, seq, and cut, with regexp match groups and string interpolation.

Yes, I 100% agree and would like to add to your argument. Another example of technical debt is when you write code without tests. You’ll probably finish much faster in the first week or two and then the manual testing will take more and mo

I also haven’t done much CSS since bootstrap 2.x days. I wonder if there is some tooling you would run in your CI to propose CSS changes - not failing like most linters but just nudge the devs a little to improve on low hanging fruits.

Wouldn't be some graph-traversing be enough? You find an important paper and then just search for papers which cite this one? And then sort by how many cite these (similar to the pagerank algorithm) and filter them by year and keyword?

I would think the claim refered to the specificity of how to select links etc. I think selenium predates jQuery, which as one of the first frameworks used CSS selectors to address DOM nodes. You typically don’t want very specific selectors
