Of course it is silly - it infringes on my personal freedom not to be able to execute arbitrary code on the computers of people visiting Github!

You can put external links into e.g. your Github README.md to display badges but yes, Github seem to have some silly policy of not allowing people to inject executable Javascript into their website so you can't embed things using <o

Yeah, the service itself is kinda hard to use on a tiny screen so I haven't put a lot of effort into providing a good mobile user experience. I guess it would be useful to have a mobile-friendly version for people just checking out the

Ooh, you have a designer I see, neat! Also, the API looks nice. Lots of image manipulation functionality. I've been thinking that the next step for Supershields would be some kind of lower level SVG creation API that lets people build

Thanks :) To be honest, I'm not sure there is a viable business here. I think perhaps making it more niched, like going for financial badges only and providing lots of templates for those types of badges, may be smarter. But it's

Hi, I built supershields.io as an alternative to shields.io. If you're interested in reading about the somewhat unorthodox product development process, I've written a blog article about it here: https://supershields.io

OTOH, limited congestion and packet loss do not affect things much if you have UDP-based event/object updates. With TCP there there is no way to avoid latency due to head-of-line congestion, but with UDP you just drop a message and mov

I have a raspberry pi with a 1TB USB stick, which is enough space for me atm. I use SFTP to upload new pictures from phones etc. to the pi. There are many apps that can do SFTP, like e.g. Foldersync on Android. I have a shell script on the

It’s buzzword bingo with the aim to inflate the writer’s ego and intimidate the reader. This stuff happens all the time when insecure people get to write things.

You mean he ought to spend his limited time picking random comments from unimportant people that noone wants to read and help edit those comments, so that the world becomes more fair and just? Sounds like a recipe for a successful forum.

I admire the jainist (?) philosophy of not killing, but it does seem incredibly impractical, to the point of being stupid even. How do you avoid killing mites on the ground when you go out for a walk?

I think Elon being a true polymath scares a lot of insecure engineers out there. They’ve gotten used to being pampered and told they’re special, and here is a goddamn billionaire business guy who could do their job also. It’s just too muc

When I recognize fear of looking stupid prevents me from doing something I see it as a challenge to do it. This makes it easier to push through. Most of the time it was the right decision, but not always. When picking up my kid at kindergar

But aren't these L/D numbers calculated for a theoretical case where there is no wind? What kind of L/D ratios would you see for helicopters, planes and blimps given a 20 knot head wind? Sure, I don't doubt a blimp is m

Stupid question: how do you handle air resistance on a windy day? I always thought that's what made blimps inherently uneconomical (though can also imagine maintenance costs are high). An airplane has very little drag compared to its

The difference I think people will notice is how much less service a BEV requires as opposed to an ICE car. The ICE needs constant changes of oils and filters to keep those advanced engines operational, and this turns into frequent service

People are unreasonably scared of abductions. The most common use case would most likely be to find a kid that got lost. Of course, this unreasonable fear of abductions means that a commercial GPS tracker for kids would sell much better if

I've found that while having a dry-run code path is always super useful, having a --dry-run flag is an anti-pattern. I prefer to make dry run the default, with all state-changing actions being in the form: if (clear_db_flag) { if (

That's an interesting observation, that russians and dutch share this trait. I agree but think the russians often deliver their insults in a bit more veiled manner. They will use irony and sarcasm, making you have to figure out if you
