Potentially interesting for use with ZFS as an LZ4 alternative? I recently did some benchmarking with lz4, gzip-6 and gzip-9 to look at using better compression for archival datasets. However, the overhead of gzip made the system largely u

Just checked in my new-ish flat where I have an electric oven only (gas hob). It's a 13A square pin standard wall socket, but does have a dedicated breaker, so it is indeed not on the ring main for the other wall sockets. It has a 32

All the places I've lived in (UK) used a 32A 240V radial spur with a dedicated breaker with the appliance hardwired, or a regular wall socket on the kitchen ring main, 13A 240V, with a shared breaker (lower power portable appliance).

It would be nice to believe that all these reported events are exceptional, and to an extent they are atypical, but it is indicative of a fairly broken work culture that such things happen. Until recently, I'd only ever read accounts o

You could visit other parts of Europe without a visa before the EU, and before the EEC. I see little reason why it would change. Right to live in another country might require some paperwork filing, but visiting is rather different.

Inherited ACLs take effect only at creation time inside that directory as far as I understand it; they are basically copied to the new child file/directory. You have to enable it explicitly for ZFS with the aclinherit property. Links

Linux supports POSIX.1e DRAFT ACLs. These are a de-facto standard by implementation, but were never formally standardised by POSIX. They are also supported by other kernels. However, other systems support the more modern and featureful NF
