This looks like REBOL, a fascinating and impressive language that encourages the creation of DSLs (they call them dialects). It's a half-megabyte, zero-install, cross-platform executable that can run on Linux, Android, HaikuOS, Windows

I'd be really curious on why you chose not to go with Erlang. Could you expand on that a little?

Mark, thanks for sharing. Do you use an app server like immutant or does each app run on a separate JVM instance?

You should check out Julia[0] and Dylan[1]. Both are dynamic with support for gradual typing and parametric polymorphism (multiple dispatch and generic functions). This, in my opinion, is the best of both worlds. [0] http://julialang.org/

We pretty quickly figured out that there was no way to completely eliminate errors, but we could control how we reacted to those errors when they did pop up. What a great quote; this should be on my wall. Thank you.

I wish I could upvote this 5x. I love Erlang the language but, paraphrasing tarcieri (& zedshaw), the community around it can sometimes be a ghetto.

What? Yes, Elixir's syntax is different, but it retains most of Erlang's semantics. And it's not hard to see that Clojure and Java are very different beasts, both syntactically and semantically.
