While w3m can display images, it assumes running in an xterm. I don't know how xterm compatible termux is nor if w3mimg uses some tricks which are not possible on Android due to sandboxing etc. But I would be interested in the result i

VLAs have been deprecated, alloca was never part of a C standard AFAIK. I was not suggesting that any of both is a good idea - but they are tools 'for programs where the amount of items you must store is only known at run time.'
