I tried Opera a few months ago and could not stick to it. All the features they were pitching at me felt a little off. The various panel integrations were clunky and didn't seem to offer anything over just... tabs. Maybe not surprising

Yeah. I kinda regret my comment 'cause it's not like I've stumbled into some discovery of human behavior no one else thought about. :) I just felt a little tangy/pontificaty.

Are you saying that, because people don't want to buy browsers, the end result is we only get the ones that can be financed by companies that sell other things (which in this day and age is ads, with only a few exceptions)? I'd a

As someone who almost compulsively changes browsers every so often with the mistaken belief that "there's gotta be something better" and has swung by Firefox on multiple occasions, it has never offered me any compelling reaso

Maybe it's also the other way around: if Firefox was legitimate competition, Google wouldn't "fund" them (quotes because really, google is also just buying user traffic with their investment). Is Google actively sabotagi

I don't have access to any data that supports my vibes, but it just feels like any business that sells stuff has very little incentive to actually give you what you're searching for. I can't think of a single online store tha

Yep. France was similar to the UK. I spent years online between 10pm and 6am to use our dialup at the off-hours cost (which wasn't free, but significantly cheaper). Not the good old days of spending money to browse the internet at 28.8

And text messages. It was very shocking to me how many minutes cell phone plans had in the US when I moved there (it was ... a while ago) compared to France. But also: in the US, calling someone on their cell cost the same as calling someon

My point was mainly that leagues are leaning towards computer-accurate stuff because mistakes are increasingly easy to spot. Arguing about calls when we were watching blurry slow-mo on CRTs isn't the same as when we're watching cr

I think it's very double-edged. I don't think anybody genuinely wants refs affecting outcomes with bad calls. The problem is we have more and more technology (camera angles, first down markers, strike zones, HD and 4K resolution,

For sure. Everything metered on time scales up shockingly quickly (cost-wise). In general, I do prefer fixed costs, so self-hosting resource-intensive things makes sense.

For me it's just a question of where I would want to invest my org's time. For example: how much time do I want us to spend looking after a task/ticketing system? About zero. How much time do I want my org to invest in DR pla

I'm very on the fence about HomeManager. Typically, the functionality for managing home configs provided by raw Nix isn't good enough. On the other hand, the functionality provided by HomeManager basically requires knowing both th
