What gets me is the people who decide not to call me by the name I specifically introduce myself with. I have a nasal vowel in my name that, so far in my life, only French and Portuguese speakers have pronounced properly. I learned English

I don't get why this got some downvotes. It does sound unlikely, and it's not like the comment is saying "no f'ing way!!" It's about as polite a way to say "that's weird" as anything.

No, it was 2018, but of those students, more than 50% are now/still in tech. Edit: Well, that said, I still mentored recently, and the numbers for the one bootcamp I mentored for are about 50% over the last couple of years, which hones

I don't see too much appeal to AR, but VR has a very fun/enjoyable immersive aspect to it. One of the things I very much hoped for was to be able to "hang out" with friends who have grown geographically distant in a spac

Same. Trying to play some 3D piloting games (Flight Sim, Elite Dangerous, etc) that had cockpits with text to read on displays also proved disappointing. Had to lean really close to be able to read it. "Someday", it'll happen

I assume it is a relevant enough concept to flying an aircraft (which also happens to be the context of TFA) that you learn about it while flying. I guess another thing worth noting is that "glide ratio" isn't the same as &qu

There is an asterisk that you have to be at the right glide velocity, but yes: they'll have the same glide angle. The leaden one will just go significantly faster. And yes, it does sound unlikely. That's why I made my previous com

If your plane+cargo glider weight is the same as your larger cargo plane weight, won't you need the same amount of runway? Your towing plane is going to have to accelerate the same mass to takeoff speed before it can get off the ground

Aw man. There are so many angles though. Your p25 employee is probably much closer to your p95 employee than to the p50 "standard" human, so yeah, I think you have a point there. But at least in food prep, p25 would already be pre

I don't think they're as bad as snake oil. I taught at one for a year and a good number of my students (it was above 50% last time I took a pulse) had life-changing career switches. I think what people don't realize is that t

"Weight doesn't affect glide ratio" is one of these things I learned why taking flying lessons that still feels counterintuitive every time I read it. (Don't worry, reader, I never intended to get a pilot's license.

But, just like lots of people expect/want self-driving to outperform humans even on edge cases in order to trust them, they also want "AI" to outperform humans in order to trust it. So: "humans are bad at this too"

I'm all for it but maybe with caution. I bailed out of a FAANG job to cook in restaurants in the Bay Area and it was very double-edged. I gave up after a year for a variety of reasons. The actual work was definitely more enjoyable. &qu

If you don't like the grass where you are, maybe the question of whether it's really greener somewhere else doesn't matter. Maybe you need to change pasture no matter what.

Well that's bad news for all the infrastructure projects in my current city and country. They're gonna run out of hydrogen before our subway extension is finished.

The context of the comment I was replying was "The person mandating the question doesn't care if you sound hostile to the person at the window". So the premise is "the customer is hostile".

Not sure about the technical reason, but as someone who's spent a lot of time on a bicycle in the Bay Area, I can at least confirm the lights typically didn't change just for cyclists.

That kind of stops working when (for example) your "payload" is configuration in a file where comments may make sense, though. I'm more partial to YAML for readability, but I don't think JSON configs are an awful anti pa
