But the history of why we stuck to four-twenties sort of makes it worse. We were allegedly headed to sanity but l'Academie was like "actually let's stick to soixante-dix, quatre-vingt, and quatre-vingt-dix".

As a French person who grew up going to a school in Belgium for a bit as a kid, I was quite amused by their numbers. My thought as a 6 year old was "aw, are soixante-dix, quatre-vingt, and quatre-vingt-dix too complicated for you?"

I'm guessing a bigger consideration is whether what appears online is subject to selection bias (especially when the context is "look how much better the food in European schools is"). Maybe it's also changed a lot. My a

I don't see Google Plus as hubris. I just think they saw a threat in Facebook and felt they had to try and build a competing product (and happened to have the time/money to invest). Doing nothing while a competitor gains steam wou

This, plus I also find that the fact that I'm not going to spend random time thinking about upgrading my console, looking at components, etc, also respects my time (and money).

I hadn't read comments about Dropbox and products/features until maybe a week or two ago and somehow don't know the reference despite having spent most of the last 20 years in tech. I presume the story is along the lines of &

And even more so for people with corrective lenses and/or weird eye behaviors. Didn't stop me from getting two different Oculus headsets (and some custom corrective lense inserts) but ultimately, comfort is what made me give up.

IIRC (I tried it last year and gave up) the desktop app also didn't properly deal with archived chats, and maybe some other notifications behaviors. Maybe this will make me try the desktop app again.

I use the WhatsApp Web PWA and it allows me to have a dedicated window/app for it? Sure it's a little quirky at times (eg it closes if the browser restarts for update) and it doesn't have a system tray icon, but aside from th

There's a reason everything is priced at some variety of .99, 99.99, 999.99, etc: it sells better than 1.08, 108, 1080, etc. My point is getting the consumer to eat the sales tax on top is just a wise trick by US businesses, and nothin

Call me cynical but I don't at all believe the issue is tax jurisdictions or anything related to complexity. It's that it's easier to show a price of $0.99 and have the consumer pay $1.08 (for example) than either show a pric

It used to take me 50 minutes to go 11 miles on 101/110 from studio city to downtown LA, so 20mph seems optimistic. Heck, it wasn't even all that rare for it to take me 45 minutes to go 5 miles on 101 from Rengstorff Ave to Willow
