Hundreds of thousands of cycles usually. Bear in mind that your tool is probably multi-cavity, i.e. making multiple copies of your part in each cycle so you might get a up to few million from the tool.

There's kind of two parts to the design: design a part that is suitable for injection moulding, and then designing the tool itself - where are the inlets, dividing points etc. If it's multi-action, how do the action mechanisms wor

There's misleading stuff on the internet about the options with injection moulding tools (terminology: the moulds are called tools) and this article doesn't help clear that up much. For a normal hard plastic like ABS, you basical

What you are describing is active sonar. The downside of active sonar is that it also clearly reveals your own position. As such, modern submarine warfare relies mostly on passive sonar - very sensitive microphone arrays (sometimes towed

You can put Windows on a Steam Deck, including dual boot. That seems to be the go-to way to play GamePass on the Deck.

That's another problem I had noticed from a bit of a play (similar problem with boringreport), so I'm glad you're already on it! I've signed up for premium.

Significance is obviously subjective, but you can definitely make an argument that "major world power is trying to take over a country" is significant. It's been going on for a while which makes it harder to feel like it'

The current most intelligent thing we've got available (a human) regularly makes mistakes and can fooled when deciding whether or not to grant access. I really think the coolest stuff is going to be when we combine LLMs with "trad

When working at the Edinburgh Fringe, I once left my phone in a taxi, then went home and went to sleep pretty early. I was woken the next morning by flatmate banging loudly on the front door and holding my phone. It turns out he didn't

There are lots of good product reasons why you don't want to do this, but there's also a good chance that they're just not allowed to. Airpods are Bluetooth. Their is a load of IP behind Bluetooth, and they will happily licen

Webcomics are still fairly good at it. I don't really understand how else I would go about following a webcomic that has plot (i.e. I want to read each episode exactly once, in order).

I do in fact own a Switch (as I wrote above). I would have thought that the console doesn't have much effect on the financial model though. The margin on the console has to be fairly low, and they sell many games for each console sale.

I've found emudeck on the Steam Deck to be surprisingly easy (I have a low tolerance for that sort of tinkering in my spare time). Downloading the right ROMs has been a little more painful (and slow), but once you've got them it&#

If you read my comment, I said I'd pay for it either way. At that point while I might be technically pirating, I don't think I am ethically.

Pixel devices do this if you have an alarm set. Despite having a Pixel device, this doesn't work for me because I use a separate alarm clock (a daylight one). Instead, I just have an old, slow charger beside my bed.

I think sometimes we conflate "graphical fidelity" with "beauty". I agree that BotW is one of the most beautiful games I've played, and that's an artistic achievement not a technical one. They do of course go h

I own a Switch, but I'm still debating whether I play BoTW on Deck or Switch. Either way I'll probably buy it on Switch because developers should be rewarded for making good games, but it's handy for me to have all of my game

The haptics in the trackpads for the Steam Deck are pretty good. They manage to communicate textures and boundaries on the trackpad. They're not magical, but they are a bit step above anything I've used anywhere else.

Using nix develop (without -c) to get a development shell has some advantages over docker. It layers over your existing environment (unless you don't want it to) so you can still access things like git from the same shell. With docker

Forget WASI, I'm interested in this project as a way to efficiently run Elixir on microcontrollers. It's a great model for embedded programming (not surprising given that was what it was designed).
