TIP: I see a lot of people calculating off-the-cuff AWS prices for comparable hardware somewhere else and declaring how expensive it is. Don't forget that 3yr reserved pricing is 48% cheaper than the on-demand costs, so once you know what

Very cool to see this release; for the Couch folks out there that love the master-master replication but need sharding (disparate ranges of data in certain data centers) BigCouch brings one of the cooler features of Cassandra and MongoDB (d

Just to clarify; I am not saying you are wrong and trying to talk you into it, just didn't want other readers to come across that comment and throw them out the window especially if they are a good fit. That being said, I am a big believer

Thanks Will; I missed all that for some reason. Appreciate you sharing your actual threshold numbers (would have been my second question).

I don't think "all you hear" is accurate. Mongo and Cassandra have some truly huge deployments and the "horror stories" are a function of the number of deployments. Search "MySQL sucks" or "Oracle sucks" and you'll find much the same thing.

Anyone have a good idea of what threshold should be introduced into the Coalescing Queue? For example, on a slow server you could imagine a command coming in every second; you likely don't want to hold onto those commands for a second artif

I wasn't trying to convince you; only point out that it might be the wrong tool for the job you are trying to accomplish. > "The only reason I need binary encoding for JSON, is to be able to efficiently transfer binary fields" That isn'

The reason the spec does not explicitly include a binary data type is because Smile and BJSON already do this (as well as BSON if you want to include all the extra types it adds); none of these specifications have been widely adopted with B

Excellent point; I can even imagine some point in the distant future where a conversation along the lines of the following takes place: "Oh you never want to use GoDaddy." "Why?" "They suck, use Ghandi or NameCheap" "Right... but WHY... ?"

If you look at this specific moment in time on Tuesday, no it hasn't effected their bottom line yet , but company perception is everything and GoDaddy's company perception has gone from "gray area that some hate and some don't care about"

Did anybody else read Piers Anthony growing up? I must have gone through 20 of his Xanth books when I was younger. That was one of the reasons I wanted to be rouge adventurer with magical partners. I got a degree in CS instead =/
