Pretty simple: the pleasure I get from solving the puzzle is not always higher than the pain of trying to solve it. There is a limit and it's different for everybody. When I do the New York Times crossword too, I'll try to figure

Items that were found by "HN scraper" have working Show HN links. The rest for whatever reason have a non-working link. Probably more likely that the code was generated by LLM and is full of bugs.

First item I clicked: github link is 404, HN thread goes to wrong comment. The game link itself works though! https://andrewgy8.github.io/hnarcade/games/games/sandspiel

Same situation in the UK. Even a modest amount of savings (a few months of your salary) is enough to disqualify you from the majority of benefits, childcare etc.

I went the other way. I just want to shuffle all my songs or a playlist (m3u) without any of the other crap. Add and remove favourites. Album-focused players are a non-starter. Players without a simple global search box are a non starter. E

They're just expensive. If you spend the same amount on Sony earbuds or another good brand, they also work fine.

Great now multiply that bullet point list by 1000, because everyone wants different things and has different hardware, and you'll see that even the current state of Linux is a miracle. We're at the point where 90% of the time you

On that note I absolutely love Matt Johnson (Jamiroquai)'s youtube channel because you can tell he likes gear but spends a huge amount of time actually playing it and making his own patches. So much of the review market is just GAS-ind

ChatGPT gaslit the OP telling it there was no such thing as keystroke chafing. So yes, in this case it would have been better to do the work oneself.

Absolutely - although the free plan (or free trial) of Spotify/YouTube are good enough for that. Spotify is certainly convenient especially being multi-device, but after a few months you've probably exhausted its recommendations.

I'm old enough to have an mp3 collection, so I haven't needed spotify. They don't have 20% of the tracks in my playlist and their integration of local audio has been steadily eroded to be almost unusable now (i.e. it's c

That implies you are paying too much for phones then, since the mobile providers can apparently get them significantly cheaper. They may also be selling your data and pre-installing apps, but every country does that.

Yes but you will generally pay more for your monthly plan in those cases vs. buying an unlocked phone at full price and a dirt-cheap SIM like Lebara.

It was glibc's resolver that failed - not exactly obscure. It wasn't properly tested or rolled out, plain and simple.

To be honest it looks like it was rendered in an old version of Unreal Engine. That may be an intentional choice - I wonder how realistic guassian splatting can look? Can you redo lights, shadows, remove or move parts of the scene, while pr

100 books is too small a datasize - particularly given it's a set of HN recommendations (i.e. a very narrow and specific subset of books). A larger set would probably draw more surprising and interesting groupings.

The definition of 'vibe code' is somewhat nebulous at the moment. For many it means "only look at the end product (website) and use prompts to fix it" but for others it means "mostly don't hand-code anything, b
