I don't follow.. are you asking if WhatsApp offers some alternative to banking services? It doesn't.

It makes a lot of sense to me. There's a huge amount of work that's already been put into the Android ecosystem that can be used in a free software phone. Trying to build a non-Android Linux phone that is competitive is just not

In SE Asia, most banks I've used no longer offer any services other than through their app.

Sounds like a convienet app, but is there any advantage to just looping an ambient sound clip in a generic audio player?

I think you're definitely in the minority. For most of the world, Uber/Grab/Bolt have made transportation cheaper, safer, more convenient, and more comfortable.

How do people pay for drugs, bribes, prostitutes, etc.? Do they just accept the risk the government can see every payment?

Where I grew up, (sadly) it's not been common since at least 50 years for 8 year olds to go buy candy at a neighborhood store by themselves. Parents had to drive us everywhere.

Yeah the situation with banks is a whole other problem. Banks have basically become an arm of the government, but without the protection of due process. Financial privacy is a pipe dream at this point, so I'd prefer basic bank account

I think privacy abuse can be largely prevented if a hard line is drawn saying that digital ids must only be used by the government for government services, such as voting, taxes, immigration, welfare, etc. If any private parties like banks,

I haven't done extensive tests, but wouldn't a GPU-based terminal emulator cause a laptop to use a lot more power at idle or near idle? Even if the GPU is more efficient than the CPU, I would think it's better to keep the GPU

Do we really want the government to dictate how people live their lives? If someone wants to waste his life away, sitting around doing drugs, that should be up to him.

That's how the stock market works as well. The only people with actually valuable information are a very tiny fraction of the participants. And that's fine. Wisdom of crowds will still prevail.

Julia is pretty good at basic data science. Working with dataframes is comparable to R's data.tables with the benefit that I don't need to switch languages if I want to run a fast loop over some data as part of a calculation or u

I disagree. R is just not a very nice language. It has some really great statistical and data science packages that were well ahead of the competition 10-15 years ago. The web frameworks were good enough for dashboards and what most people

I really doubt there are many apartments even close to 20 floors without an elevator. I've traveled a lot and stayed in many old buildings in Asia, but I've never seen one with more than 6-7 floors without an elevator.
