It's a bit of a shame the way journalism works this story will do the rounds with the headlines associating "Alaska Airlines" with "tailstrikes" ("takeoff incidents", whatever term gets used), while actual

I never agreed with this. Who defines what is considered "weird"? Should all projects declare up-front that it only is designed to work on: - x86_64 and aarch64 - linux, darwin and windows - glibc (no musl) - binutils x.xx -

This is one way to do it. You might also be able to denormalize the categories down to an integer-array column and build a GIN or GiST index on that. I'd probably use triggers to automatically keep the integer-arrays up to date, but th

That is merely a detail of how the typing module has decided to set up convenient aliases. Treated by the language (and likely compilers) as different types.

Mixing types in an array/list is not remotely stupid. How exactly would you suggest expressing the lack of a value in a series of numbers without None/null? There's your mixed types. Don't let weird dogma get in the way

Exactly the same as it ever was, but if you're doing cpu-heavy stuff on python objects you're doing it wrong because they'll never be Fast.

When the vendor is 100% in control of the client at either end, whether the messages are "end to end encrypted" is an entirely academic marketing exercise.

Let's not start throwing pejoratives around, there is nothing half-assed about having an idea how your design will work before you blindly start coding probably-wrong stuff. I've also found having apparent time-luxury to be a rath

Don't let TDD destroy your architecture. TDD encourages a form of programming where you build from the outside-in, building layer after layer of abstraction, putting off solving the actual problem until you get to the messy gooey centr

Having just written up some thoughts on how you could do it I realize they wouldn't work, because I imagine you're presenting a "standard"/FHS-esque view of the filesystem to the non-nix packages, i.e. they expect a

You are not the only one to have this thought. The problem is - who comes and fixes the mess when the inevitable customizations needed have been done by a contractor who is now long gone? It seems like a great idea at the beginning, but at
