I have an undergraduate degree that's completely unrelated to CS and I want to go back to school one day for a master's in CS. Is research experience also necessary for a master's at a good school (like UCs)? Or will industry experience a

At the risk of being downvoted, here's a "conspiracy theory." Why did the ad block for firefox recently stop working for youtube and google sponsored video ads? Personally, firefox's superior ad block was the last thing preventing me from

I applied for the chrome netbook the other day through the pilot website and I was surprised there was no "landing page" after you hit submit saying "thank you for applying, etc." It just posted to the same page with no error messages, no

I've been looking into game programming in my spare time and I was wondering how to best implement the UI as a hobby project. I know there's Scaleform, http://www.scaleform.com/ , that's used for major games like Starcraft 2 but the pric

Out of curiosity what are the specs of your box? If anyone else can answer, I'm also curious what kind of box you need to safely compile a huge project like Chromium.

My old roommate used to be a tab whore -- it got so bad that eventually every time he opened up firefox a million tabs would try to load up and temporarily kill our bandwidth. Anyway, I don't know how many tabs you keep open but I'm sure a

How are programming/technical books on the Kindle 3? I've read reviews that the Kindle DX can handle them but the normal Kindle has a much more attractive price point.

My other comment touches on this but the Closure Compiler parses the JSDoc comments and gives warnings for rules that are violated in the code.

While it doesn't enforce the guidelines, their Closure Compiler enforces the variable types and encapsulations declared in the JSDoc comments with warnings. http://code.google.com/closure/compiler/ On another note, a Google engineer argue

The author also wrote in the context of a problem and under his "solutions out there" he did not list the self-configuring solution as a possibility. Presumably, the author may not be aware of this solution and we are just throwing it out

You can dust off an old computer you don't use and set up a VPN/web server. Tack on everything on your check list and there you go.

As a NoSQL newbie I would love to see this take off. Most tutorials only have simple schema examples like articles with tagging; I would prefer to see schema designs for large-scale applications. I've also always wondered...how big should
