I've wondered about this a lot. My understanding is that VS is still on .NET Framework WPF too; it will take some effort to move it onto .NET Core WPF. My wild speculation: they'll put some effort into a .NET Core WPF migration an

There are no great options. I've written a bit about this: https://www.reillywood.com/blog/windows-ui-frameworks/ tl;dr: WinForms is well supported if you don't need it to be pretty. WPF is complex but m

> I’d argue WPF is a lot easier even for simple apps. I could not disagree more. That might be true for you , if you are a person who has already spent a long time learning WPF. It is not true in general; WPF is complex.

NuGet has always been a bit of a Wild West. Looks like curl was uploaded to NuGet by some rando and not maintained. In a past life where I had to deal with a lot of .NET libraries from awful enterprisey vendors, it was often easier to pull

It doesn't take 30 years for new housing to have an impact. New homes immediately affect the price+availability of existing homes, because when someone moves into a shiny new home they free up the place where they were living before.

I mean... sorta. It's not easy to write a Office add-in just using the C API, and when I tried a year or two ago the only example code I could find was like 20 years old and all documentation was heavily pushing people toward the newer

Ahh, streaming. This is an area I've been working on; there are still lots of places where we collect data when we should stream it instead. In general, if you think "that should be able to stream" but it doesn't, that&#

I'm not sure when we'll be ready for 1.0 (at which point we will commit to stability in the language etc.), but I would guess 1-2 years based on the work we want to do and the pace of contributions. Not sure about Debian. We gener

I spent 3 years using Fish before switching back to zsh (and later Nushell, which I ended up working on). Fish is a wonderful, mature project, but for me it wasn't quite ambitious enough. It breaks from POSIX just often enough to cau

It has been for a very long time, and that's a reasonable approach IMO. I say this as someone without most of the usual prejudice against VB; I used to work in a large codebase that was half VB.NET and half C#, and didn't mind VB.

Okta gave me a verbal offer in November, and retracted it after 3 weeks of “we’ll get final approval any day now, promise!” Left a bad taste in my mouth, doubly so because I turned down another offer assuming that Okta would come through.

As I understand it (heard second-hand from someone in the know), the CockroachDB people regret that language choice and that’s why Materialize (which employs a bunch of ex-Cockroach people) uses Rust. I generally think a garbage collector m

I was considering getting into HoloLens development a few years ago. It seemed like they were still pushing developers toward UWP even when UWP was obviously nearly dead, and that killed any interest I had. Did the developer story for HoloL
