Oh. I didn't realise you were arguing against encryption in its entirety. Okay. Let's just get rid of E2E entirely and let Facebook mine not only our metadata but also the content of our messages. Nice plan.

No, you don't. This is a fundamental rule of how encryption works. You can't design around it. If there is a key which decrypts everything, then there is a risk it can be stolen or guessed and used to decrypt anyone's message

Have you considered Riot (Matrix) or Signal? Both are open source so it's possible to verify claims made on their website, which is a lot less possible with proprietary software like Threema.

AES is far and away the most heavily scrutinized encryption algorithm in history. Of course that doesn't make it flawless, but the level of genius that the authors would need to hide a backdoor in it for all these years boggles the min

You don't understand. Encryption is necessary because on the internet, there is no distance. Any web service today must be built with the knowledge that everyone, everywhere is attacking it all the time. The only defense against that

Note that Mozilla has added a way for network operators to disable DoH for their entire network, by NXDOMAINing a specific fake address. UK ISPs will presumably do that, and DoH won't happen in the UK for a while.

There is no conceivable reason as to why anyone would remove the ability to configure DNS servers. DNS server options are present in almost all internet-facing applications and devices, from locked-down ecosystems like iOS to touchscreen pr

I use my pfsense router as a DoH recursive resolver, so while DNS is unencrypted inside my local network, all requests are protected when the enter the internet.

There are FOSS DoH servers, and you're welcome to run your own, with a free cert from Let's Encrypt. You could easily run a logging-free DoH server for anyone to use, also. There's no lock-in here, and I can't see any wa
