That's exactly what is in my mind! The mismatch of domain name order and path order really bothers me for a while and I just couldn't find a sound reason for that. For the date format, AFAIK, only English speaking countries use MM/DD/YY, po

I guess that depends on what kind of programming you are planning to do on the machine -- coding some web apps has quite different requirements than coding some 3D games. But in any case, GET AS MUCH SCREEN ASSETS AS YOU CAN AFFORD! :)

I was living in Canada last year and thinking the same idea in the freaking cold winter. I guess for North America it might be a better idea to put servers in the cold areas (e.g. Northwest Territories) in the same continent instead of runn

I have to say I just LOVE HN --- I've been thinking about this for quite a while and was planning to ask "How do you name your machines" today and just found this article ... Problem solved! Thanks! :)

I'm using Vimperator, but got a problem: how to escape from embedded Flash once it gets keyboard focus? Because once the focus is in some embedded objects, I can no longer control Vimperator unless click the mouse to move the focus back to

Not sure if it just me or not, but anybody noticed the count-down on the right sidebar actually says 46 days? It's May 20 today, and it should be 16 days until June 6, unless someone forgot that JavaScript's month is 0-indexed?

I guess platform/rendering engine difference should be taken into consideration when choosing the "best" fonts. Same font is usually rendered very differently on different platforms with anti-aliasing on. For example, Monaco looks fantastic

A side question: Do you need to get .net/.org/.[other TLDs] when you have the .com one? e.g. google.net redirects to google.com, but google.org is for a different purpose.

I'm native Chinese. I speak English quite well, and now I'm learning German. I definitely agree with you that German is much much easier to learn if one knows another Latin-based language before. I guess same is true for French or Spanish--

I actually tried to train myself somehow. It's just no knowing how long/hard I need to practice until I'm able to work OK with my left hand makes me stagnant. Now both u and eugenjen said it's doable, I'll continue my daily exercise. Thanks
