i have zero experience authoring brew packages but as a consumer, a ‘brew install omniscidb’ would be really nice. especially with things like database that you might build apps that depend on it, it’s convenient to have a tool manage versi

I've worked on the whole loop of ¡server side! to ¡client side! and now back to ¡server side!. Using Hey for a little, I'm really impressed with the "feel" of it. I really hope they will write about how they do this and

Heroku provides value in other ways for us. We run on a number of other solutions, most involve shipping a ~100mb image. This can be dramatically reduced in size with a slimmer base image, which we plan on doing eventually. In this case, he

Your point is valid that a large portion is server side only (which is still a concern for my use case). But note a lot is omitted from my gist, there are 768 packages.

FWIW 106mb will fit ~11 million chars. I use many of the features I get with rails webpack. I also use create-react-apps (which I think is even bigger). I think they are valuable to the development process. I would think we can achieve most

Yes. Makes a huge difference. I try to stick with defaults as much as I can. I find that helps with long term maintainability. In this case, I don't know if I will (as I chose in the past to always use pg and rspec).

I don't upload xcode.app to apple every time i submit an iOS app. I do npm install on every build on heroku.

The issue for me is nuanced. While it doesn't go to end users in production, it still ends up in my heroku buildpack. This sharp increase (33% of my allowed buildpack) was alarming. Having been a rails and react developer for a very lo

When building container images, yes. However in heroku I'm not sure how to do this without custom buildpacks (e.g. https://elements.heroku.com/buildpacks/istrategylabs/heroku-... ). Custom buildpacks reduce th

Thank you for the well thought out answer. This is why I asked. This was brought to my attention working on a new project. This is the first time I've done rails 6 on heroku. Heroku out of the box with this app gives me a ~360mb buildp

This is some of the best testing advice I've read. I follow the first two points with enormous success. The third idea seems like it would solve a lot of the cases where i've stumbled. Much appreciated! reminds me a lot of how git
