See my peer comment: Apple Mail really does download external images automatically, on a server to hide your IP address. It then rewrites those emails to reference the cached images from the server. Every tracker pixel sent to a mail accoun

Right, especially with Apple. Apple's Protect Mail Activity feature, which is on by default, "opens" all emails received on a server, to hide the user's IP address. This causes emails with tracker pixels to be falsely re

VPTERNLOGD is a mouthful but is fun to think about. Notice there are 4 functions mapping 1 bit -> 1 bit: const 0, const 1, copy, invert. There are 16 functions mapping 2 bits -> 1 bit. Think 4 possible inputs, 2 possible output values

Rust does have manually-written error handling paths like that. See for example the panic handling in Vec.retain_mut: https://doc.rust-lang.org/src/alloc/vec/mod.rs.html#1577 I doubt most crates handle these

The problem being tackled here is link time in debug builds. This affects all platforms.

And before that was the 68k -> PPC transition, which was even smoother: 68k and PPC code could co-exist and call each other in the same address space . (Well there was no memory protection in those days, so everything was in one address

I'm not sure that a failing constructor is UB under -fno-execptions. The libstdc++ manual suggests that these will instead abort: https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libstdc++/manual/using_except...

My understanding is that the code which aborts the process contains the potential for UB.

Stack overflow in Rust does abort the process, but not immediately: the signal handler first distinguishes stack overflow from other sources of SIGSEGV/SIGBUS, and then prints a message containing the name of the current thread. Both o

My understanding is that there is a decent amount of undefined behavior on stack overflow in Rust, due to its use of TLS. https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/43146

I think the "someone" was Dennis Montgomery, and he conned Lindell. Montgomery was the source of the data (see RG's thread). Montgomery has a history of cons. During the war on terror, Montgomery claimed he had software that

Often you want to capture something, not just check if a match exists. But the theory of capture groups in DFAs is relatively obscure - for example tagged DFAs in the Laurikari paper, which is a difficult read. Does anyone know of an access

The "fault" lies with any function which fails to uphold its contract. I would argue that if `foo1` were documented as async-signal safe, then it would be at fault for the memory corruption it causes, if called from a signal handl
