AMD does seem to be trying to goose PCIe 4.0 demand by making some of it's products perform best with it (which is a mistake IMO, since it makes their competitors products more appealing) but it seems like the 6500XT was originally a m

It's pretty hard to beat a monitor with multiple inputs combined with a cheap USB switch when it comes to price and reliability. If you look up the prices of stand alone hdmi switches on amazon though I think the most likely explanatio

There are/were standalone off the shelf USB devices that sort of did this, minute the network part which I had some interest in. I own an old one, but since my main machine is linux it's lack of linux drivers made it of dubious us

I had a plan to run older period VMs or even period hardware to play older PC games, and use something like parsec to view them. Unfortunately, despite there being a number of desktop streaming solutions available I couldn't find any t

I worked briefly at a video store part time around 2000. There wasn't that brisk of a business from the little private room, at least not during the times when I worked (which included week days). But by this time home internet was bro

Sort of reminds me of the IT guy at my high school who was shipped a crate of AOL floppies (I guess to distribute to the kids) who just moved the tabs and slapped a new label on them when he needed one.

> if you have a USB 3 hub plugged into a USB 3 port, multiple USB 2 devices plugged into it still cannot break through the USB 2 uplink limit of 480 MBps. I had a weird project where I ran into this. Or rather, I was actually aware of it

I actually think the same thing (designed for Southern California only) about self driving cars. My car comes with a bunch of pointless sensors that beep nonsense at me incessantly until I give up and disable them. The lane assist goes bana

I run the same setup for the same reasons. I also think having the TV disable itself until given network access (but waiting until after you've thrown the box away) or having prepaid 5G will come soon. It's disgusting but here we

Curious if that worked for you longer term. I remember getting stuck. I know twitter and facebook will allow you to proceed but then lock your account "for security reasons" pretty much immediately unless you cough up the goods.

I do something similar but it doesn't help me with the built in microphone in the laptop. I'd have to disassemble the bezel and possibly snip a wire. It's much easier to Macgyver disable a webcam than a Microphone, even if yo

I had to turn this off (not sure how it ever got turned on) because the Microphone indicator was on 100% of the time it was running (as it should be) while it searched for nearby devices through some kind of audio communication.

A lot of people are of the opinion they wanted to put the squeeze to everyone using ARM, but based on reading that doesn't really seem super feasible to me. I think nvidia is worried about being shut out of the x86 space so there'

That's a decent reason to have Steam on Mac, which they do. But I don't see the incentive to build proton for Mac, which would just move them from one potential walled garden into another one.

Nvidia recently removed the driver check on consumer cards making them the clear choice now. I've actually had good luck with AMD cards, but the reset bug is truly bizarre. For instance I own an evga R7 360, no reset bug, very reliable
