Possibly! But trickier than it seems at first. For types to help with optimization, those types have to be correct and reliable (i.e. sound). If every line of your app and all of its dependencies are sound, then you should expect a speedup.

I like all three languages. I spend most of my time with JS because it runs in the browser with no overhead, and it has the highest quality VMs.

A person is a midlife crisis[1] or a railway accident[2] away from being a totally different entity. There is no absolute trust, just risk assessment and reevaluation. [1] I thought it was just a cliche until I saw it happen to someone. She

People love to talk about trolley problems, but they almost never happen. Every accident myself or anyone I know of has gotten into was entirely the result of simple human error, with no difficult ethical decisions involved.

Still definitely possible for browser plugins to do anything they want to Shadow DOM. For open shadow roots, javascript can crawl them. If handling closed shadow trees is necessary, just patch Element.prototype.attachShadow and keep a WeakM

Gzipped source in a high level language can be much smaller than the equivalent bytecode. That's not why these demos "Hello Framework" demos are 3-7MB though. That's due to the cost of shipping an entire widget system th

All of these examples are running on preemptive multithreaded operating systems, so implicitly yielding and getting scheduled is in the cards even if your process is managing its own concurrency with cooperative multithreading.

To take the same information and present it in a different way: this legal services company is able to win a lawsuit that an unassisted or naive litigant would lose. They make some money, the person who was harmed by Equifax gets some money

I'm ignorant of the details, but WASM is an assembly language that's designed from the ground up for running untrusted code. It will also have multiple independent open source implementations, which has some nice properties.

When I delivered pizzas (2006; Pizza Hut; Alabama) there was a small additional consideration for gas and wear and tear on my vehicle. As I recall it was around 1/6th to 1/10th of the the ~$6 an hour wage I was otherwise making.

Creating a cancel token gives you two things: a token and a function. You call the function when the token should be cancelled, and the token can tell you when it has been cancelled. The simplest way to query the token is to call token.thro

Can you expand on that? How would an agent-based API propagate exceptions?

Yes, but this has a natural analogue in promise land: function startTask() { const promise = doTask(); promise.catch((e) => { if (e instanceof SpecificErrorType) { handler(e); } else {

This is a fundamental issue with multitasking, in that an independent task will have its own stack, so errors can't propagate up the stack of the function that started the task. e.g. consider this python code: def start_task():

Neither lazy nor eager is neutral. Sometimes you want one, sometimes you want the other, and you can build either out of the other. For promise cancellation, this has been talked to death, but in short, making any function preemptable at an

The fact that a law is broken is not a counterexample of the law existing. War was once the default, and lauded. Now it is the exception, and is decried and worked against. When a war happens we ask ourselves why, and the international comm
