I think the best way to learn this is to get into a framework and start hacking with it. Go through the tutorials and re-develop what was done in them. Then develop a small appliaction just for you. Maybe it could catalogue movies if you

Yea it definitely will. Just follow the tutorials on slicehost's website and you will be fine. Start off with ubuntu 8.04 imo

Ive tried both and so far I find slicehost to be much more efficient especially because I dont need to install a 64 bit operating system.
