When compared to the other two major OSS libraries I would say: - Leaflet. Widely known, suitable for mostly simple use cases. - Mapbox GL JS. State of the art library based on WebGL. Mapbox started off with a fork/extension of Leaflet

Looks neat. I also want to point out KafkaHQ ( https://github.com/tchiotludo/kafkahq ) which is another FOSS web interface for Kafka. Happy user of KafkaHQ here.

It's beyond me why most languages fall into this trap: C, C++, C#, D, Go, etc. All hard to search for. Granted some of these predate the internet, but most do not. Almost looks like some kind of secret agreement between language design

If you're gonna use AES-CBC then please use Encrypt-then-MAC. Now you're performing encryption without an authentication tag (HMAC), also known as https://moxie.org/blog/the-cryptographic-doom-principle/

Looks like an interesting talk. Mandatory reference to the DDIA book: https://dataintensive.net/ . It features a whole chapter on B+Trees vs LSM, etc. A must read IMHO if you're into this kind of stuff.

These are great options. If you don't want to pay up to Oracle. Just use one of the OpenJDK distributions. Java is still free and the JVM is still an amazing piece of tech.

I think this is a testament of Homebrew its success. Build a package manager for a OS that doesn't natively has one (macOS) and eventually expand to OS's that do have one (linux), because users request it / like Homebrew.

Since I mostly work in the enterprise (in Europe) I see Angular all around me as the de facto framework. It's definitely not dead. With TypeScript it's a pleasure to work with. I think a lot is due to the unfortunate naming, peopl

Just took a quick look at the crypto implementation. It uses AES-256 in CBC mode but..... without an authentication tag (HMAC).

We're quite spoiled on the JVM when it comes to stream processing frameworks. Just a few off the top of my head: - Apache Spark (especially Spark Streaming) - Apache Flink - Apache Storm - Apache Apex - Apache Samza - Apache Ignite (al

I'm not sure why this is on the frontpage since PMD (like Checkstyle and FindBugs) has been around for years. Still If your not familiar with PMD you should take a look. Anyway these days you probably want to invest in setting up Sonar

I assume all mails run over NHS controlled mailservers. Some administrator could just step up and kill/block the email thread, right? Shouldn't be that hard of a problem...

The 'kut' part in 'orkut' means pussy (as in vagina) in Dutch. It was always clear to me from the get go why orkut wouldn't succeed in the Netherlands.

There are lots of commandline parsing libraries available in Java. I suggest taking a look at the following ones as a learning exercise (which seems to be the aim of this project): https://commons.apache.org/proper/comm

I'm interested to hear what folks use to kickoff Hugo for sites hosted on GitHub Pages? TravisCI, CircleCI, etc? This considering GH pages has build-in support for Jekyll but not for other static site generators.

Yes, but AES is fast. And since your using the same key over and over again it makes no real difference if you're decrypting once or 10 million times.

> AES256 with 10 million encryption rounds. Applying AES multiple times/rounds doesn't yield anything. AES is not adaptive (like BCrypt) so the cost of brute-forcing doesn't increase incrementally with the number of rounds

Java 8 Optional is useful (although the API could be better). If only FindBugs would warn about calling get() without checking isPresent() first. There's an open FindBugs ticket for this: http://sourceforge.net/p/f
