I hate to say so but welcome to the real world. You can't always expect to work on cool and hip projects using the latest tech. There will always be "boring" clients with real world problems that need to be solved. It's all about what YOU m

Perhaps it's just me but I'm always a bit hesitant to use third party domain checkers. I can't speak for namechk.com but who says the owner of such service isn't logging all entries? Whenever I want to verify whether a domain is available I

Strange indeed. Uncle Bob was in the Netherlands not too long ago, also on a teaching gig. I don't see why traveling to the UK for the same type of work would be any different.

Java is used in all sorts of places. If you're only familiar with lets say, writing Java desktop or console applications (Java SE) I can imagine this stuff looking a bit alien. But if your doing web and enterprise development in Java (Java

Really? Bugzilla? Talking about bad user interfaces. Anyway I don't see the BitBucket guys integrating Bugzilla anytime soon since they're part of Atlassian now which markets the Jira issue tracker.

FWIW, note STOMP as an alternative to AMQP. Apache ActiveMQ and JBoss HornetQ implement it.

What I find most appealing about OSX is that it offers Unix with a great GUI out-of-the-box. You have the power of bash at your fingertips while still benefiting from a friendly interface.

I've been doing Java/OSS development on Mac for a couple of years. I agree about the Mac being a great dev box, but I don't buy the "Your Dev Box Should Be Virtual" story. Sounds like a real productivity killer.

Jira + GreenHopper. So far the best issue tracker i've worked with. Former professional experience includes Mantis, ClearQuest (bleh) and StarTeam. I do understand that some people may be overwhelmed by Jira the first time around. It has qu

I like Elastic Beanstalk, especially since it's just EC2 under the hood. You can still tweak for example Tomcat or Linux settings if you really need to (by creating a custom Beanstalk AMI). Concerning message queues and other JEE features.

Why all the hatred towards OpenShift? It's just another PaaS solution and primarily a competitor to VMWare's CloudFoundry. Personally I welcome competition in this area.

Didn't we invent DNS for this issue? But seriously, I can see the need for something like this. But the proposed three letter words don't really help. It's still too hard to pronounce.
