This is really annoying me as well. I use a program for work that can occasionally use a lot of ram, while saving or interpolating for example. On my little MacBook Air with just 8GB of ram everything works fine, it just swaps a whole lot m

Personally I couldn’t get past the horrible gray squircle jails for icons that don’t adhere to their boring new standard. They didn’t even update the pixelmator icon for quite a while, which they themselves acquired. Shows you how much effo

I’ve deferred my next Mac upgrade to when my current M1 air on Sequoia stops being supported. If they mess it up further I may just move off the platform. Such a shame because the hardware is great.

The 777-200 is a 1994 design, way before all the recent trouble started. Its three engine types have been produced thousands of times, the GE90 has an excellent in flight shutdown rate of one per million flight hours for example.

Remind me what company is responsible for making the 777-200 engines (hint: it’s not Boeing)

The author of the article recently had a “laptop olympics” stream where he compared his laptops. He owns an X1 carbon but doesn’t like it at all, mainly because of the CPU iirc.

Yes. It’s also built on arch which will always be rolling release, so it’s not the end all for stability. I doubt omarchy is doing any real fixes for stability beyond config files.

The multi-core geekbench score for the M5 is the 9 core version iirc. The 10 core score isn't out yet as far as I know.

I had a 2020 dell XPS 13 on which I installed Fedora. Battery life was an atrocious 4 hours at best, I tried out all the power management tools as well. Windows was much better. Not that I used it, I just kept it plugged in and running fedo

I have the same problem with KDE, which is why is use gnome. I've tried a lot of the mainstream KDE distros like KDE neon, kubuntu and Fedora KDE and a few times I've had it break within a day of installing. Most of the time SDDM

The developer of ghostty had this exact same issue with his terminal. Ironically apple's iCloud password autofill extension on firefox also practically halves my firefox performance. Seems like they haven't figured out autofill ye

Haha I'm subscribed but haven't listened to that episode, I took the squircle jail term from the arstechnica tahoe review.

Hoping the next update is the iOS 8 to the iOS 7 redesign and then it'll be fine.

I was on RC too, for a few days, and also uninstalled. I'm glad I did, the fresh Sequoia install feels much nicher. Even with reduce transparency on, the design was too ugly and the drab gray icon jails for non-squircle icons were down

I actually preferred the pre-tahoe spotlight. The information density was higher and while it did not always give me the most relevant result atleast it was consistent and I could scroll down to find it. New spotlight is less dense and jumb
