On a slightly off topic note, rockstars need a lot of skills to be successful. As you said it isn't only about music (I beg to differ that it does not relate to music at all), but a lot of different stuff. A rockstar has to catch the attent

Interesting. After the first few thoughts like "This can't be happening I am only 19" and "this guy is either dumb or 6" my next thought was "What would be the question that would make me feel really old when I am in my 50s"? The effect thi

I don't use SO very much, but this poll looks interesting. The most interesting thing (not disclosed in the results) is what people wrote for "other (please specify)" in the question "13. Which languages are you proficient in?"

You still do not get the point here. His arguments may be valid, I don't know I never read the HIG nor am I a designer. But there is a way to do constructive criticism without belittling the efforts of other developers. He is acting like a

Its not really a fixed number. On a day that I can do some coding or assignments I do not visit it for more than 30mins I think (I count reading articles listed on HN as being on HN), but when I cannot or do not want to do anything I can ac

I am no authority to talk about it, but usually I do not require an authority to talk about most of the things. The point is that I evaluate a comment on the basis of the content and not the author. This is why I learned that many of my fav

After weeks of PhD bashing here is one article which successfully defends it against a lot of arguments against a PhD. I especially like the comparison of an academic career with the startup track.

You seem to be forcing your perspective on others. I did no such thing, I said at the last comment that I believe everybody thinks different. All I am trying to do is understand what exactly are they thinking. Edit: Also, while I may use

I started using atmega32 controllers before college. I had some prior C experience but nothing with controllers. I found it very easy to learn it that way, why can't people pick it up that way? Why is arduino better?

I still do not get the point of an Arduino though. Its just an avr board with supporting circuitry. If you know C, picking up on avr-gcc is a day or twos job. Where was the need to have the new language? Where did all the hype came from?

I agree with most of your post, but not the fact that engineers cannot work on different jobs for different clients. What would limit them? Many of the EE freelancers are around working for different clients.

Steve jobs knows what is the difference between owning a company and working for a company. When you are an employee you get a fixed salary, when you own a company you get whatever the company makes.
