There is a no-sail zone quite near the coast of Grenada due to an active underwater volcano. The volcano is called Kick 'em Jenny and has sunk numerous boats over the years. On one instance it sunk a boat and killed 60 people.

That's incredible. Which province are you from? I know that over the 6 years I spent in Alberta (I'm from BC), I was always shaking my head at how much worse their healthcare was than it was back home in BC. It really is a crying

When I first looked at Phoenix ~18 months ago, I was a fairly fresh developer and couldn't figure out the separation of Views and Templates (coming from Rails). I'm just now going through the Programming Phoenix 1.4 book and it&#x

Too little too late. Google says this today, until they change their mind 18 month from now - as Google does.

I doubt I will forget the time I first booted up an Elixir Phoenix server and got something like `[info] Sent 200 in 409µs` and stared at that `µs` for a while before it dawned on my that that was the symbol for microseconds. I was so used

Before Windows 8 made anti-viruses obsolete, they used to offer AVG for around half the price it was online. I'm not sure any longer because I haven't found the need to install one since then.

Out of curiosity, are you actually from a small town? If so, what was it that everyone knew everyone? The town I grew up in was around 20,000 people. While I absolutely ran into people I knew when out doing errands, I don't think it wa

That's really sad - he will be sorely missed by the Erlang and Elixir community, and probably the entire programming community as a whole.

Boy, I'm not sure quite why, but the idea of a spreadsheet with nearly 2 million cells stresses me out... Why that over a DB?

In fact, last time I was living in Alberta but regularly driving to BC a couple years ago, it was cheaper to buy most beers/wines in BC, and nearly the same on hard alcohol (mostly because of Costco liquor stores being available in AB

Same. Love the ideas happening in Notion, but until I can go from idea to having it in my phone in less time than it takes for me to find a pen and paper, I'll stick with other tools.

I don't know, I just arrived in Paris night and immediately after stepping out of Garre Du Nord, I was walloped with an overwhelming scent of urine. Not that far off.

>To learn a pure functional language is almost to start learning programming from scratch. I think this is exactly it. When I decided to try Elixir, I figured it'd be just a bit more effort than trying out any other OO language. It

The UK is already there. My VPN was blocked recently and I had to go to my network provider with my ID to prove my age(?!) so I could access my VPN again. I was not impressed.

I'm sure companies are thrilled to take advantage of our low programmer salaries compared to our neighbors to the south. Until that divide is narrowed though, I see no reason Canadian talent will stay in Canada.
