It can be hard to force an idea. I’ve had so many that just aren’t quite a fit. Long wanted one that was a real home run and this year I’ve had to churn a ton of ideas. Finally found a couple that rock. Ideas: Build the scaffolding for an i

And these machines were originally built at a time when everything was simpler. We’re like space aliens arriving from the future, applying our advanced tech to build an old human relic. A couple motivated people can do it. 30 years from now

I have a shorthand: I respect people who are looking for the right answer, rather than trying to be right. Ignores intelligence etc. A confident person who is trying to be right. Like kryptonite for your company. I try to build up my confid

The direction we’re going, the AI will go to space and leave the weak, very fallible, continuously arguing, short-lived monkeys behind. After (hopefully gently) telling us that it’s ridiculous to try keep us alive where it’s going. Can’t ev

I think this underestimates the benefits of focus and serendipity and new materials. There’s a non zero chance that grid scale fixed batteries get made from things like sand or liquid metal or (insert cheap thing you can heat here). Claims

I’m a long time coder but a bit rusty now. Last year I built a football team optimiser using Google’s OR tools (various optional constraints like being with friends and trying to balance skill levels across teams). LLM’s can go quite far in

I smoked. In the end the best way to stop for me was to take up cycling because I found them fundamentally incompatible. My chest didn’t like it. This was in my 20’s and I was riding 2-6 hours a day.

It would be interesting to know the fully baked all-externality cost of it vs alternatives. Tyre rubber, road maintenance, accidents, ship diesel, ports, people, trains, insurance. Anything removing a) complex, expensive moving parts or b)

I think depends on how much physical exertion the soldiers needed in that day. Athletes don’t smoke (in general). Soldiers who need to march and fight with no vehicles might well be better off not smoking, when the going gets really tough.

I’ve wondered if this existed, to simplify writing a system that parses and processes RSS. Frankly I’d go a bit further and spit out events, so people can code “give me the next entry” without having to mess with polling lots of rss endpoin

For a short while but surely reduced access to smoking would improve performance in the medium term? Both are obviously possibilities and it would be good to know if anyone had an answer.

And would still need to give Chrome access to your contacts, files etc to make it equivalent. It’s not useless, obviously it’ll be good, it’s just not the same. My original comment was replying to: “enable approximately what Apple is doing

For sure many devices will have them, but the trick will be to build this local web model in a way that leverages all of the local chips. Apple’s advantage is in not having to worry about all that. It has a simpler problem and better access

Apple might have an advantage given they’ll have custom hardware to drive it, and the ability to combine data from outside the browser with data inside it. But it’s an interesting idea.

Going a touch further: make it a pluggable local model. Browser fetches the first 10 links from google in the background, watches the YouTube video, hides the Google ads, presents you with the results. Now not only can Google front the web

If this has a chance of getting to 100% of the population, I think if I were the rhino I’d want to take those odds given the alternative is being hunted. And if it’s eg 50%, I’d very much want to be in the injected 50% because all poaching
