A data point: 11 years of note taking → 1,860 notes. I've been keeping notes for work in a structured way for quite some time. I log everything that I might want to recall later (project/app ideas, active projects, meeting minutes

Boards dev here, thanks for mentioning the app! I'd be happy to answer any questions. Not immediately obvious, but nice to know: the *.boards file format is simply a .zip file. It contains all resources/images and an HTML file wit

I'm working on something like this (macOS/iOS), although it is not quite ready yet. Notes can have tags and attributes so you could have attributes per note like: topic=rocketscience , semester=fall2020 . Later you could say: &q

I'm working on a Zettelkasten app myself at the moment. Backlinks and tags are working. Rather than using solely a time based ID like "202006110955", I'm adding the date to the file name. Links then show the file name in

After you memorized a card for the first time, it is presented again on the very next day. If you can still recall it right away it moves to the next stage, which is then shown again in 2 days. Intervals double from then on. If you have dif

Shameless plug: I make an SRS app called Flashcard Hero[1] (iOS/macOS/Windows). I strive to keep the app as easy to use as possible. [1]: http://flashcardhero.com

I had the same problem with my 2012 MBP constantly overheating until I recently opened it up and removed a pad of dust that had accumulated between each fan. There was no way for the hot air to escape anymore. Problem solved, I've not

From the current feature set, both are similar. Future features aside, the main difference is the file format: Why I went for HTML is the ability to embed images (via data URI). This allows for a note to be a single, standalone file that ca

Hey HN, creator here! My goal is to build an app to capture personal knowledge over a lifetime. Hence data longevity is key. I’m looking forward to your thoughts, especially for my choice of using HTML instead of Markdown as file format. I

I started working on the app way before Zettelkasten became a thing. My goal is to not force a specific workflow. If you would like to use it as Zettelkasten, it'll work. If you prefer a different system, you can have the app adapt to

I'm tackling this problem, too! My focus is on data-longevity so everything is based on simple files and folders. The idea is that the app "understands" the structure of the content. A bit like a combination of a notebook, Xc

Thank you for putting this together! A suggestion: adding decimal separators to numbers in the "Cases through time" chart for better readability.

What is the input to produce one of these images (aside from the pre-trained model)? Is it a random number or another image or something else? Let's say you wanted to re-render the exact same image given the same state of your pre-trai

A while back I came to realize that not every app I produce (I'm an Indie Mac/iOS dev) has to be polished and App Store-ready. I can write an app for an audience of one - me. Getting an app ready for an App Store easily adds 50% o

What about images? The simplicity and longevity is very appealing, but how do you handle images in your note taking? Any recommendations on tools and workflows in that regard?

Thanks for your feedback! I tried to design the .board file format in a future compatible way. It's just HTML embedded in a ZIP file. Make a copy of one of your boards and change the file extension to .zip to take a closer look. The HT
