The single core power for ADL at 5Ghz will probably be closer to 25-30W (based on the desktop ADL tests), otherwise couldn't agree more.

It is likely that 3.2ghz is close to practical ceiling for these CPU cores for some technical reason. It's not about thermal headroom, but the very ability of the circuitry to run at faster speeds. It has been speculated that one way h

What about real world tests for you specific workflows? My M1 Max runs my daily bread and butter R scripts approximately 4x faster compared to a top of the line Intel Coffee Lake. For me it's a huge improvement. Having over 100GB/

For learning the basics of GPU programming Metal is a great API to start, especially if you come from a C++ background. It’s clean, straightforward, ergonomic, relies on same old concepts like pointers, references and templates and does not

Very much a thing :) I am not a phonologist or phonetician, so I never really worked with it directly (aside a class at a summer school a decade ago), but some of my colleagues use it daily and they seem happy. No idea.

From the top of my head: 1. Gloss alignment in the file format is governed by magic (is it driven by the unicode display width? Is it UTF8 encoding size in bytes? Is it both?) 2. The file header has this magical number in it that just has t

I am not sure what kind of security advisory would be helpful here? It's software you run locally, not something on a public server. How would anyone exploit this unless you are in a habit of running untrusted software on your local ma

I think windowing and bucketing are a useful conceptual model for understanding the precision of the encoding space. I understand how FP values work in practice but this article really hits the nail on it's head when explaining the les

I really love fish and the philosophy behind it, especially the "configurability is the root of all evil" attitude. Makes for a well though out software that is a true pleasure to use.

Are there any open-source models that can do similar type of landscape generation? I would really like to look at the code and try to understand how these things are built...

Well, the point is that traditional display technology had limited spatial resolution, which is exactly why algorithms like subpixel rendering were created — to improve the visual fidelity of text on an imperfect screen. The algorithms them

I though sub pixel rendering (or anti-aliasing) was not needed at all on modern HiDPI displays? Why do you need to anti-alias anything if you are already rendering glyphs with sub(logical)pixel precision anyway?

Of course there is no problem with asking why things broke and how to fix them. My comment was however directed at the silly fad of blaming Apple for all and everything, because “big corp always bad and FOSS always guud”. This is irrational

As repeatedly pointed out, Apple has been using these ports for audio streaming functionality since 2004. If your web framework is so inflexible that it hard-codes ports to collide with OS functionality without an easy way of reconfigure it

One step forward, one step back, one step sideways. It's a great idea to have line types, but the treatment of block text is terrible... at least with YAML I can embed markdown and have the paragraphs come out correctly. Multiline keys

For me it’s going to be a massive improvement. Already the base M1 builds software faster than my Intel i9… and given that these new chips have 400GB/s bandwidth it will be a ridiculous improvement for my R data analysis code…

M1 Max TDP will be around 30-40 watt for the CPU cluster and 50-60 watt for the GPU cluster. Note that unlike x86 CPUs (which can draw far more than their TDP for brief periods of time), this is maximal power usage of the chip. M1 needs abo

Well, Apple G13 series are excellent rasterizers. I‘d expect them do very well in games, especially with that massive bandwidth and humongous caches. The problem is that not many games run on macOS. But if you are only interested in games w
