To those who wouldn't realize, this message is from the creator of Ardour. I suppose he's tired of hearing the same complaints again and again so he decided to pack them all in a single message. I'm not going to talk about ho

I may be wrong but it seems that the number of confirmed cases isn't a great indicator either because we've been testing a lot more so it's expected that we're getting more positives. What matters is the number of people

Thank you for your detailed message. I haven't understood everything you wrote but it seems that basically all that complexity comes from supporting hot code reloading. Given that a lot of (most?) Elixir devs don't use hot reloadi

But then you need to install Erlang/Elixir on the server, which kind of defeats the purpose of releases, don't you? Or have you abandoned releases altogether?

My experience is that preparing a release is much more straightforward since Elixir 1.9, which added release support to the Elixir standard distribution. That said I tend to treat a release as a black box, I haven't tried to understand

Living without the social stigma associated with IT work (at least in western countries) is also an incentive. So many times I have seen faces changing when I say that I work as a SD. It's a real attraction killer. I even once had a la

It depends on the amount of light. Try reading a book outside on a clear summer day when the sun is at its zenith. Your eyes won't even stand it. It doesn't matter that the light comes from a direct source or from reflection. We c

Unfortunately I have to second this advice. There's very little chance you'll be able to make things change so better to move on now than when you're depressed in a few months or years.

This seems below average. No tests or code reviews is common but pushing directly to prod or connecting to prod databases is unusual. It seems you've gone from one extreme to the other. From what I've seen, even at companies were

Not sure why Erlang is in the sadist category, along with Perl and Regexp, since it's one of the most readable language I've encountered. I get the fetishist part as it emphasizes a specific paradigm but sadist seems unfair. It mi

Also, if you do a lot of concurrent programming, you should consider platforms with lightweight processes (as provided by Erlang/Elixir, among others). I find code based on this paradigm much easier to write and debug than async code a
