So you're suggesting to write a tailored JSON parser for each use case? Sounds convincing over my preferred approach...

"Too many people already do the wrong thing" is not a good excuse to stick with the wrong thing.

> Why unsafe to parse? Try to write a parser for an arbitrarily complex and nested JSON object without running into runtime errors even after the fourth-or-so revision. There are too many "yes buts" in the living standard. >

Looks like a worse (= less widely supported) msgpack to me...?

JSON is mostly irrelevant outside the JavaScript world as well. (Don't quote me please.) There are no RFCs for s-expressions, but that's fixable, I guess. And yes - there are a few Java parsers for them.

JSON is an incredibly inefficient format for shareable data: it is annoying to write, unsafe to parse and it even comes with a lot of overhead (colons, quotes, brackets and the like). I'd prefer s-expressions.

Interestingly, OpenBSD is unaffected because it does not have a procfs anymore.

Let's hope for the best. With Firefox 57, most Firefox add-ons and all Firefox themes must be Chrome-compatible already. The steps are smaller these days.

A large part of the problem is that too many people are happy with not having a choice anymore.

Currently, Vivaldi. Yes, I know about the privacy implications, but at least they're trying to get better, not worse. I wish Netsurf had more manpower.

The past two years with Firefox have made me gradually dislike Chrome less. Yesterday, I pulled the plug and switched to Vivaldi completely. I wouldn't be surprised if Firefox 75-or-so is based on Chrome anyway.

In theory, that could even be ported to some versions of Plan 9. I remember that the Jehanne OS dev had said something along the lines of "Netsurf (another Duktape browser) could be ported soon".
