I'm a native speaker. I read a lot. Fiction, nonfiction, literature, etc. I've got a master's degree in CS. I'm a published author at multiple respected conferences. I've been learning Spanish as a second language for ~2 years. I scored abo

My goal was learning through interviews. I don't have anything to sell. Perhaps in an abstract sense I hope to sell them at some point in the future. I used 'conversion' because I converted them from cold prospects for interviews to intervi

It was pseudo caution. The finance industry saw that investors wanted to (in some cases, had to) buy conservative investments like AAA paper. They sold them a fantasy of conservative investment. It was so compelling that the utterly ridicul

See tptacek on this thread: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2768921 A lot of regulation tells big often state-based institutional investors like retirement plans and university funds that they have to invest X% in AAA rated investment

I didn't read it that way. I think he was speaking more to the systems that have evolved around us. He tried to fit a theory to the data of observations in behavioral differences in men and women. I don't think it's relevant to him if those

I feel like the first bit is an argument over semantics. Does conversion mean I sold something? Does it mean I got someone to perform a desired action? You're right on the next part. It is a significant time and effort investment. The theor

The blog in question is fledgling (~ 6 months old). It has little traffic, but is growing quickly. The industry is wildlife management. None of the business owners I spoke with even asked about traffic. They aren't (usually) technically sop

I'm not selling them anything. I do write a blog in their industry. Honesty is important to me. I'm establishing relationships and trying to understand people and the problems they may have with their business.

That is a fair point. I debated about that phrasing specifically, but a friend of mine in outside sales uses 'response rate' for a cold call to simply mean he got to make a pitch.

I think 'start the next Apple' is just as constrained as what you're dogging. What about just getting married and raising a great family? Or starting a mechanic shop that lets him fish every afternoon? Living a happy life that they choose a

This is a circular argument. "Assets used in the commission of a crime can be seized regardless of if you are charged or even found guilty of that crime." If you don't have to prove there was a crime then how can you claim that the assets w

It's not quite that simple. If you're holding dollar denominated assets and you want to 'suddenly' switch to Euros you'd better be happy to sell/exchange those assets for pennies on the dollar. Flight from an asset causes prices to crater.
