I completely agree. I'm surprised at the level of negativity towards CL here. I would expect a community of hackers to recognize a highly generic solution like CL when they see one. The only critique I would give is that if CL were really t

Consider a hypothetical stock currently trading at 34.05 bid, 34.06 ask. Trader A puts in a bid for 100 @ 34.06, matching Trader B's ask of 34.06. Normally, B would then sell to A, but thanks to HFT, institute C has the unique and intrinsi

I think you can make the argument that in order to have a "free market" of ideas (when it comes to building the best search engine) you shouldn't cannibalize the ideas of your competitor. If Bing's signal consisted of some generic method fo

according to OKCupid's response ( http://www.observer.com/2011/tech/okcupid-we-didnt-censor-ou... ) something has changed: OKCupid's CEO "got to know" match.com a little better (through access to more accurate statistics, etc.) and has ba

As a fellow HFT programmer I sort of think of HFT as another asset class: eventually (as more divers go for the gold) the returns will be on par with alternative asset classes. This is the beauty of capital investment and the free market--

I don't know enough about the regulations that apply here, but aren't all VCs and private equity funds subject to the same criticism? i.e. they pool private money into non-public companies?

It's pretty remarkable to see something non-technical (e.g. broadly-appealing/humorous marketing) put into a framework like this. I just wonder if it dilutes the value a little bit. I've always enjoyed the jokes in their emails, but now tha
