One extra year of study before beginning the major will be prohibitively expensive for the lower middle class and the poor people.

Slightly tangential, but in the span of my career, when I have worked with young people, I have enjoyed it much more than old boss-stereotyped bosses. I only once had a younger supervisor, and I preferred that much more than an old boss. Is

Yes, he is knowledgeable and some episodes added value to my life. But they are horribly long. He is basically extending a tweet with some bullet points to 2.5 hours long episodes. And his pro-supplement stance is awkward to say the least.

Can vouch for the quality of Fall of Civilizations, and some episodes of Lex Fridman. Hardcore history has many factually wrong and misleading content in it. But yeah, it is entertaining. I will check out Isaac Arthur.

I use twitter only for the Deep Learning research folks. Getting bombarded by Onlyfans types and crypto types has increased manyfold in the last few months.

This is why there are forums and places like Reddit (RIP?) and Quora (RIP). I come from a really small town and made it further than anyone I know in that town in tech. (Not in terms of money, though) Just Google: "best books on Spart

I also got thid sense when I started learning to program. I moved towards ML later. I do no interaction with the web whatsoever other than a Flask web app once or twice a year for higher ups' pet projects. I want to feel the joy of web

AI hype is like blockchain hype is a common HN meme which is gravely mistaken. Blockchain didn't have any proper usecase that was better than what it was aiming to replace. But AI already has real use cases. And it is already solving

Don’t. Just finish college. From the point of view of a college undergrad, "professional life" seems to be a dream. Like-> do work you like -> make a ton of money to do all the stuff you want. Adult life is messy. And work i

This is exactly what I meant. I want interesting content from all of my interest areas no matter if I follow a person or not. You elaborated it fully.

I am part of Lemmy for some months, and keep going back to it. But not Mastodon. I want to be able to follow whole instances and get content delivered to my feed no matter who posts it- whether followed by me or not. In Lemmy, you can follo

What I meant is that I want algorithm suggested content come to me automatically like it happens in Twitter or Reddit. In Reddit, you can sub to r/math and r/programming with a single account and have content appear on your feed.

Mastodon is unusable to me because I need two accounts to be parts of the math community and programming community. N accounts for N interests I have. Doesn't work for me. Reddit had subs. With one acocunt, I could sub to any number of

Don't forget the beautiful illustrations in the book. We can use Stable Diffusion. Huggingface's Diffusers library do a good job in running some versions locally really well.

Slightly tangential. Just like "alignment" of LLMs, the ideology this hypothetical book teaches will have huge controversy. When Hackworth in the book tells the Judge/Dr. X that he will tweak the book so that it teaches them

I am quite skeptic about that effect. When a ractor's voice reaches the child, it is changed completely. Only some pattern remain here and there. And Miranda just read words from a screen without ever touching or seeing Nell. She didn&

I second this as a consumer of a lot of MOOCs. Bad video as long as you can read everything on the screen is okay. But poor audio is an absolute bummer. Cannot tolerate this at all. This doesn't make rational sense to me. I think it is

I created multiple reddit accounts- one for programming and math stuff, one for books only, one for general stuff, etc. I quit the general one two years ago because of Reddit's dumb monoculture. I kept visiting math, cs, and book subs.

Everyone uses PyTorch both in industry and academic research. Some labs use JAX/Flax. Companies that ships ML products often use Tensorflow. I want to say that it doesn't matter much which one you start with, but you will have to
