Now I wonder what it's like for sea stars and sea urchins as they grow from their larval bilateral symmetry to the adult 5-way version, in which everything is also reabsorbed/rearranged to an absurd degree.

We do not understand that we're living in excess, because we've been taught our entire life that this level of convenience is normal and good. Money can just solve everything, it's that easy, no downside. No sacrifice of valu

Funnily enough they add the AI feature I care the least about: chat. It's more clicks and typing for things I can do/google myself already. The frictionless autocomplete of Github Copilot is so much more useful for quick developme

While I think that this is the shovel for their desired moat, I wonder how much it will actually catch on. Will smaller AI developers join? Will they be able to successfully influence policy to a degree that it brings back all the stupidity

The fun thing is, we cannot recognise this kind of danger. Our regular animalistic detection mechanism cannot be triggered by this, so we're kind of aware but nothing in us tells us to get away from the problem. Even as you write this,

yeah, despite popular views, intelligence is a gradient. Also you have to distinguish between memory, reflective reach and other skills which can vary drastically in their proportions across species.

Your parent comment is correct. I did develop small AIR desktop apps some years ago with html+js, not flash, and I did switch to electron/nwjs later.

As someone who has kept an eye on the numbers over the years, I am not sure what to add, the article sums it up sufficiently well to get the idea. Can't say we didn't work hard for this.

That is untrue, you still need a server to facilitate discovery/passthrough. Peer-to-peer does not exist in the wider internet for most consumers.

Agreed. Also, if only there already existed (for more than half a century too) hard- and software specialised for typing speed that you could use instead of the general purpose system you have available on every computer... Truly a horrible

Here's a controversial idea I had with some friends today while talking about it: VR/AR headsets will never succeed, and that is for the same reason 3D movies aren't worth it for most studios these days. Somewhere in people&#

This is probably the real answer - like most countries' attempts to change this kind of law it's about making something they already do legal, not because they want to do it in the future.

Isn't this kind of research illegal? Because the results usually are. (I say as someone who used to own marbled crayfish[1]) [1] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marbled_crayfish
