They do, but they aren't very good. PHP is very fast, but unfortunately Wordpress is carefully designed to make it very slow.

Oh this sort of thing is far from new for DHH, there's long been a desire to oust him from Rails or fork it, but it's never quite came to fruition, and unless Shopify were to back it, it is unlikely it would survive :-\

What's at issue is whether it's appropriate for officials in the US government to use their office to apply pressure against speech they don't like. Preventing this behavior is why the first amendment exists.
