Native speaker here, this has kept me distracted on a couple long drives. “X is all but Y” Interpretation 1: X has moved so close to Y that it may as well be Y -> X loosely equals Y (I think this is the colloquial underst

Great comment! Maybe you can help me with a book recommendation? I was recently looking for a book which was basically your comment, but more in depth and covered the last couple thousand years. I wanted a to read about the history of astr

A couple months ago, prior to the latest season of Better Call Saul, I signed up for AMC+ to catch up on old episodes. I was very surprised to see _none_ were available to watch. Furthermore, there’s a banner warning now at the stop stati

Not quite, though, right? Because the magnitude of those two vectors is different: the magnitude of the latter one is 1.7. I agree with the rest of your statement.

Why not drop the beater token entirely and rely on mTLS for auth? There’s even space in the cert to put metadata that can be used for authorization. ..ah I suppose if you did that you’d need a certificate per site, and that many keys may n

No. In that moment your biggest problem is that all your data is inaccessible. That you don’t have backups reduces options since it precludes that solution, but another one exists: pay the ransom.

Could you expand on why 30min session validity after explicit logout is okay? I don’t mean to sound accusatory; I would like to understand your reasoning.

Your comment and the one you replied to don't make sense to me. How can skin only differ in pigment, but it also require additional training to care for skin of different color?

Can you expand on why you believe these sorts of interviews don't offer good signal? Having gone through a couple of these interview cycles, I felt the behavioral questions adequately demonstrated how I'd perform in similar situa

It might help to think of a specific curve. An example would be a simple parabola: f(x) = x^2. At the bottom of the curve (x = 0), the slope (aka tangent, aka derivative) is 0, or a horizontal line.

If that was an invitation to ask for an invite, consider this a request! My keybase is in my profile. Reddit continues to devolve, and I'm always looking for new online communities to replace it.

That's a lot of speculation and FUD. There's nothing inherent about IoT that requires it to be reliant on remote services.

Using your analogy, it can be better for all involved to develop a single eight cylinder engine and sell it with two cylinders disabled for less to those that only need six cylinders.

Exactly. You can see this in Tesla with their 60 vs 75 model S. The battery is physically the same in both, but software limited (liftable via OTA) in the 60.
