don't say anything in a comment thread that you wouldn't say in person. This one simple rule should keep comment quality high, but it's so hard to remember and follow. Maybe PG should always display it when someone's typing a comment.

I think the crux of the point Smudge was making with the analogy to Reddit and subreddits is that it won't hurt anyone to have a long tail of stackexchange sites, which might still be useful to a small number of people. This is similar to W

I'm sure once you had the products, that's what drove engagement. You did a great job of curation there. But before you launched the ecommerce side of things, you clearly got lots of signups just using a landing page. You guys have that rar

If you can predict the correction with good accuracy, why wouldn't you just fix the address on the backend? The only reason I can think of is to avoid spamming someone else in case of a wrong guess. But for popular domain name spelling erro

Fab is testament to the fact that those annoying Launchrock type pages can help you launch a startup bigtime. I hate signing up to mysterious new apps with content-less landing pages as much as the next hacker on HN, but they can work somet

Congrats on your brilliant execution. I've noticed that from the beginning you've made it a point to share your growth numbers every few weeks (on HN and outside). How much has this helped you in generating buzz and getting more users? Woul

I didn't mean to use time of publication as an indicator of quality, but instead to find out material which has more chances of being foundational (because it came before).

I've thought of making something like this, but can't think of an elegant approach. One starting point might be to show closely related books in chronological order of publication.

Sean Ellis's blog has a lot of good material on how to go about this, especially for freemium products - http://startup-marketing.com/

PG, since you publish your "talks" as essays anyway, why don't you use your talks to tell interesting stories (from YC or other times of your life)? As you already pointed out, it's better for the audience too to read your essays and think

Does that rule out almost all consumer market startups, because they aren't making anything and don't seem terribly interested in doing so ("We're focusing on growth")?

There are only two things that you could do that would help me learn Python: create and curate good learning material. When it comes to education, I think the highest value even today is created by making good new content, not more tools.

Sorry, I don't have time to make this short. There are 2 ways: 1. Talk to individuals who you expect to be your users. Ask them how they currently do what your idea makes easier to do. Try to find out if they have any problems with it, but
