I'm sorry but you're incorrect. Getting "offended" by a sexual joke is not unusual, nor does its normalcy matter in this situation. What they did was create an unwelcoming environment around them by engaging in locker room-level humor. I pe

I think it's fascinating that every single instance of this argument, in this and related threads, posters conveniently decide to begin tracing the chain of events that lead to the firing at the tweet--not the jokes.

How were the accusations false? It seems they were making jokes that made another human being uncomfortable and they took action. One of the two men involved even posted in this thread and admitted that they were making the jokes.

I agree that the first of the Tropes vs. Women laid out some pretty standard feminist theory applied to game culture, but if she's not rocking the boat by doing so, why all the death and rape threats? Also, the idea that criticism or commen

For a lot of people I think the GPIO pins, the killer little GPU and ability to expand from the USB ports that differentiates it from the other low-cost ARM boards. The closest competitor I can think of is the BeagleBone which is great but

There is a product aimed at doing just that: http://filabot.com/ Closing the loop and attaching the output of the Filabot directly to a 3d printer wouldn't be too difficult.

This is a great game and it's well-suited for the iPhone format. It took me a few minutes playing the "Frenzy" mode before I realized I could use both thumbs (duh). How are you liking Unity compared to Obj-C?

I take issue with the suggestion that there is very little education going on, specifically with regard to Adafruit. The tutorials on the site do not go into complete depth when discussing every project they post but the content they produc

The use of the term "thought crime" may have been deliberate, but that does not make it apt. I was in no way claiming to know what the author believes or thinks, only what their words have to offer--which I was summarily disappointed with.

I was merely describing the analogy as misogynist, but if you wish to extend the label to the speaker you have every right to attempt that. If we are to discuss the rhetoric of my comment, though, I think that weasel words such as "thought

What is your improved description for the remark describing girls as "not overly ugly or attractive yet still wanted to be the center of attention" besides casually misogynist? I am genuinely curious. Since when does a (seemingly) objective

There's a casual misogyny to the premise that ignores the face that plenty of teenage boys do/did the same things for the same reasons.

It would be easier to "act like it's ... true" if that statement weren't so damn objectivist. It's a non-ideal language that runs most of the web. There's an incredible nuance to that truth that makes it difficult to say that it's "garbage"

I think there's also a broader implication that "homeless people" are so different from "normal" people that their input is some sort of gem that this young man went out of his way to discover for the rest of us. There are a saddening numbe

Presumably to keep traffic in their ad corral? The more nefarious version of not linking to the source is placing what looks like an outbound link that goes to another article on the site.
