Wise decision to create a new account for this comment! I have the same problem trying to explain to my european friends why trump won and why it is not all crazy.

How true. Someone should tell them to shut up, and start talking for the people, not to the people.

The response to people who are wrong should be to engage and argue with them. By tossing them as deplorables they will keep to themselves until they can get back at you.

No. And facebook does not pretend it 's not pro-Hillary (its CEO endorsed her). That doesn't mean the discussion is not warranted. In fact it's long overdue. Facebook is now a medium like the rest, it needs to be regulated li

I presume that pollsters did their job well. There is a pattern here, they got it wrong both with Brexit and with Trump. I think bad polling was not the reason. The media, the government and academia have created an atmosphere of militant

Today is not a day to make rational arguments. Any mention of trump incites spontaneous namecalling , as if only certain people are entitled to the truth. I'd give it a few days until the internet becomes usable again.

Can't disagree with you on that. However it's very likely that most of his voters took him seriously. It's not likely that they are all bigoted idiots, and in fact, they were not: https://www.theguardian.com/u

The markets proved smart. In contrast to brexit, it seems they had a better hunch than the pollsters. Also, it seems Brexit is still more uncertainty to the markets than Trump.

I think it is more populism than far right. For example, in my country greece, under similar discontent, people voted the (supposed) "radical-left" party of Syriza. The anti-globalization trend is very real though.
